Are Meghan Markle and Victoria Beckham feuding because the duchess refuses to wear the fashion designer's clothing? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the alleged drama and we can set the record straight.
In May 2017, Markle said in an interview with Glamour that she won't wear Beckham's dresses because they don't fit her well. "What I'm starting to learn is, even though things look amazing on the hanger, it doesn't mean they're going to look amazing on me," the former actress said. "For example, I love Victoria Beckham dresses, but I don't have the long torso to support that silhouette." Although Markle made her comments last year, they only made headlines earlier this month after Harper's Bazaar unearthed the interview.
According to Woman's Day New Zealand, the duchess's refusal to wear Beckham's clothing has created a major rift between the two. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "Harry is good friends with David Beckham, so Victoria always assumed she and Meghan would become pals too. But Posh has been left hurt and appalled by the way she thinks Meghan has treated her. She's fuming."
The magazine further contends that Beckham has sent numerous outfits to Markle in the hope that she'd publicly support her brand, but the duchess hasn't stepped out in any of them. "Victoria has been trying to not take things personally, but when Meghan refused to wear the latest frock she sent her, she decided to reach out directly," says the outlet's supposed source, who further claims that the design "penned a letter to Meghan" and "asked if there was perhaps a deeper reason for the snub."
The questionable tipster goes on to say that Beckham has even offered to custom-design clothing for Markle, but she has "not heard back yet." The suspicious source adds, "Meghan seems to be actively ignoring her attempts at friendship. Posh says it's got to the point where she seems plain rude."
Not only is the magazine's story fabricated, it's also filled with inaccuracies. For starters, Markle made her comments about Beckham's dresses in May 2017, a full year before her May 2018 wedding, which the designer attended. Meanwhile, the duchess didn't actually say she wouldn't wear any of Beckham's clothing. She specifically stated that the brand's dresses don't fit her well. In fact, Markle wore one of Beckham's sweaters in her official engagement photos last year. The duchess was spotted wearing the sweater once again during an outing with Prince Harry earlier this year.
In addition to the tabloid's story being factually incorrect, it's also based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable "insider." Gossip Cop, however, checked in with Beckham's rep, who tells us on the record that it's "untrue."
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
