Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not expecting twins, despite a new speculative report. In fact, the outlet making the claim doesn’t even pretend to have inside information about they couple having two babies. Instead, the entirety of its article is based on how “fans” of the royals “suspect” she’s carrying twins.
On the cover of its current issue, Woman’s Day exclaims, “Twins! Royals Celebrate Double Baby Joy.” Without citing any insiders or royal sources, the tabloid simply states Markle is “noticeably large so early into her pregnancy, sparking excited whispers that the royal romantics could be expecting twins.” So what’s the magazine’s big proof that she’s carrying two babies? It notes when the Duchess of Sussex landed in Australia for her and Prince Harry’s royal tour, she covered her “bump with not one but two purple folders, leading to further speculation that two little ones are on the way.” That’s it?!
The rest of publication’s story is filled with how the news of the pregnancy was released. The tabloid even recounts how Prince Harry said at an event in Australia that he and Markle “genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby.” It bears mentioning that Prince Harry did not say anything in a plural form to connote they’re having twins.
If anything, he seemed to reiterate it was just one “upcoming baby” when Prince Harry then looked at his wife and told the crowd at Admiralty House in Sydney that he was excited to be in Australia when breaking the news of them having “a boy or a girl.” Again, the redheaded royal didn’t say “a boy and a girl” or “girls” or “boys.” Additionally, the official statement on October 15 from Kensington Palace read, “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.” That, too, very pointedly said “a baby,” not “twins” or “two babies.” And when Gossip Cop sought a comment about the claim by Woman’s Day that Markle and Prince Harry were having “twins,” Kensington Palace directed us to its announcement, which referred to just “a baby.”
Of course, far be it from Gossip Cop to question a report from the same magazine that contended a month before their wedding how Markle was going to be a “runaway bride.” And why would we question an outlet which asserted four months ago that Markle’s completely estranged dad confirmed she’s pregnant with twins.
The narrative about Markle being pregnant with twins has been bandied about ever since she and Prince Harry tied the knot. Life & Style, for example, maintained the Duchess of Sussex “found out two days before the wedding” and walked down the aisle pregnant. That would make Markle five months along, which doesn’t jibe with the size of her baby bump and the palace’s announcement that she’s due in the “Spring of 2019.”
To recap: Prince Harry himself said he and Markle are having one “upcoming baby… a boy or a girl.” Similarly, Kensington Palace stated the “Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.” Call us crazy, but Gossip Cop is going to take them at their word, despite the overwhelming evidence presented by the publication about how Markle covered her baby bump with “two purple folders,” which undoubtedly means “two little ones are on the way.”
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
