Prince Harry's life is drastically changing thanks to his upcoming marriage to Meghan Markle. But even before the couple was engaged, Star was falsely announcing on one of its covers, "Meghan & Harry Moving To America!"

The front of this October issue further declared, "Quitting Royals — Just Like King Edward!" As is well-known, King Edward abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson, a divorced American. The gossip magazine decided to take that concept and apply it to Prince Harry and Markle, who, like Simpson, is also a divorced American who won the heart of a British royal. The outlet contended, "Prince Harry is so in love with Meghan Markle, he's ready to swap bangers and mash for burgers and fries and make a new life with her in the states."

It was specifically alleged that the (increasing distant) heir to throne would split his time between the U.S. and England, but would still have to "turn his back on the monarchy." And though the cover teased, "Dying queen's furious reaction," in the article inside the edition, it was claimed he hadn't yet broken the news to his grandmother, or even to brother Prince William. Of course, the real reason neither of them knew about any such plans was because none actually existed.

At the time, Gossip Cop exposed the story as completely fabricated and time has proven our reporting correct. Far from "quitting" royal life and "house hunting in L.A.," Prince Harry and Markle are living at Kensington Palace and working with the monarchy to prepare for their wedding. What's also noteworthy is that this Star cover story was suspiciously reminiscent of one peddled by its sister publication, OK!, in July.

That cover similarly announced, "Harry Leaving The Royal Family For Love!" In the accompanying article, it was alleged Queen Elizabeth "rejected his bid" to marry Markle, "forcing him to rethink his entire future." As a result, the tabloid maintained he "may bid the monarchy farewell." Gossip Cop was told back then that the report was "pure rubbish." That's clearly still the case today with Queen Elizabeth eagerly anticipating her grandson's wedding and planning for Markle's official welcome into the royal family.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
