(OK)

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not leaving the royal family for their baby, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can correct this tabloid claim that further alleges Prince Harry is giving up his title, fortune, and planning with Markle to move to the United States. There’s no basis whatsoever to support that contention and plenty of evidence to counter it.

According to the cover story of this week’s OK!, Prince Harry and Markle are “leaving the royal family” and will “turn their backs on the monarchy.” The publication quotes an unidentified “source” as saying now that they’ve wrapped up their tour in the South Pacific, “Harry and Meghan will be making a historic announcement… They’re leaving their royal life behind.” Without any proof, the magazine maintains, “Harry will be giving up his title and his $150 million trust fund.”

The ill-informed or possibly made-up “insider” asserts, “His priorities have shifted now that he has a baby on the way.” It’s true “priorities” do change when one becomes a dad. But a father’s main responsibility is to take care of his family, and if he were to give up his title and trust fund, Prince Harry would neither have money to support his wife and baby nor a home anymore in Kensington Palace in which to shelter them.

Also, among the reasons Markle and Prince Harry fell in love was their shared interest in helping others, something their work with the Royal Foundation allows them to do a daily basis. Notwithstanding all of that, the outlet’s highly suspect source contends, “There’s buzz that they are planning to relocate to America.” If the tipster were truly an “insider,” he or she would know for sure whether they’re moving to the U.S. and not couch the claim with the words “there’s buzz.”

“Harry knows that his grandmother [Queen Elizabeth II] will be the most upset when she finds out,” says the almost assuredly phony source, who somehow knows all this information before the royal family and decided to share it first with an often discredited American tabloid. The supposed “insider” then makes clear he or she knows little about the royal family when asserting Prince Harry’s decision to leave the monarchy is “very similar to the one made by the queen’s uncle, King Edward VIII, who famously abdicated the throne in 1936 to be with American socialite Wallis Simpson.”

For starters, Prince Harry is not remotely close to ever being king. He’s currently sixth in line to the throne. More significantly, King Edward III abdicated because, as head of the Church of England, he was not allowed to marry a divorcee whose ex-spouse was still alive. And in the case of Simpson, she had already been divorced once and was still married to her second husband when she began her affair with King Edward. There are many more reasons why Prince Harry’s purported “decision” to quit the monarchy bears no similarities at all to his great-granduncle, but enough of that point has been made.

The tabloid ends its completely untrue cover story by invoking the late Princess Diana. The outlet’s “source” contends another reason Prince Harry wants out of the royal family is that “his mother’s death still haunts him, and he’s vowed to never let Meghan or his child suffer the same fate as Diana.” Again, the circumstances are very different. The death of Prince Diana was a result of paparazzi chasing her and Dodi Fayed in Paris as she rode in a speeding car driven by a man who was later found to be drunk at the time.

Far from moving to America, Markle is actually in the process of becoming a British citizen. As for Prince Harry, he served in the British Army for 10 years, and remains proud of his country, as well as dedicated to those who sacrificed for their nation, especially the wounded. He’s not moving to California, as falsely alleged by the tabloid.

Also, as opposed to the contention that she and her husband want out of the monarchy, Prince Harry and Markle had a very royal wedding in May and embraced all of its trappings. And throughout their royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji, Prince Harry repeatedly brought up Queen Elizabeth and his family’s connections to and memories shared in those countries. Simply, Prince Harry and Markle are not leaving the royal family for their baby, who’s due in the spring.

Lastly, OK! has tried to peddle fake reports about Prince Harry leaving the royal family for a long time. In June 2017, the same untrustworthy tabloid published a cover story that exclaimed, “Harry Leaving The Royal Family For Love!” In that bogus article, it was similarly maintained he was “giving up [his] title and $150 million fortune,” because “the queen has rejected his bid to marry” Markle, a divorced American.

Obviously, none of that was true, and neither is the last claim about them renouncing the royal family because of their baby. Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with a palace source, who laughed off the publication’s premise, which was picked up without being fact-checked by New Idea. Maybe these magazines should leave the royals alone with their untrue tales.
