Prince Harry and Meghan Markle National Enquirer cover story about quitting the royal family

(National Enquirer)

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not quitting the royal family. That ridiculous premise is featured on the cover of a tabloid this week. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

The National Enquirer loves to make up stories about the royal family. It seems like every week there is at least one false story in the tabloid. This week, the big one is about Markle and Prince Harry threatening to quit the royal family, but Queen Elizabeth II “calling their bluff,” stripping them of their titles, taking away their house and cutting them off financially. The whole story is so absurd it’s hard to know where to start.

The easiest place to start is with the simple fact that despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being one of the most famous couples in the world, this one tabloid is the only outlet reporting what would presumably be major worldwide news. The reason this story isn’t being reported by the BBC, the New York Times or any other reputable news organization is that the tabloid invented it out of thin air. However, that’s not the only reason the story is clearly fake.

The tabloid spends two insane pages quoting so-called “royal palace insiders” saying things like “Meghan’s royal fairy take exploded in her face,” and insulting Markle’s recent interview that was aired in the U.K. as part of a documentary about the couple’s tour of Africa. One anonymous source tells the tabloid, “They demanded a six-week break to chill out – and see what America has to offer them. Her Majesty exploded! I’m told she retorted ‘Six weeks? You can make it permanent!”

The questionable sources also says Queen Elizabeth “blasted the documentary as ‘a bad acting job’” by Markle. It seems this whole story was invented because of the publicity surrounding the couple’s documentary, in which they opened up honestly about some of the difficulties of royal life.

The tabloids have a long history of tremendously insulting articles aimed at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It’s gotten so bad that Prince Harry and Markle are suing a London tabloid, something the royal family hasn’t done since Prince William sued a French outlet in 2012 for printing unsolicited photos of his wife, Kate Middleton. Gossip Cop has busted many stories about the Sussexes by the Enquirer specifically. The publication writes about the couple so much, it often can’t keep its own facts straight.

For example, in March of this year, the publication issued a report claiming Queen Elizabeth had “booted” Prince Harry and Markle from the royal family. If that story was true in March, as the outlet claimed, how could the couple be quitting now? Is the tabloid to have us believe that Prince Harry and Markle are quitting something they’ve already been kicked out of? That story, like this latest one, was total make-believe.
