Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have bought a $14 million Malibu home and are planning their move from the United Kingdom? That’s what several gossip magazines are claiming. Gossip Cop can confirm that all of these stories regarding the “royal move” are false.

New Idea, Heat and Grazia are all reporting that Prince Harry and Markle are  planning on a move to a multi-million dollar Malibu estate. The primary idea behind each of the tabloid’s pieces is that the two are frustrated with the backlash they received for flying on private jets after campaigning for the general public to use more environmentally-friendly travel methods.

The tabloids aren’t exactly on the same page when it comes to the details, however. Grazia subscribes to the theory that Prince Harry is behind the move, seeking to flee the aforementioned backlash. Heat points to Markle as the brains behind a Los Angeles property they’ll make “Buckingham Palace West.” New Idea takes the premise the furthest by stating the two have made their decision on one particular piece of property in Malibu that comes with a $14 million price tag for its private gym, five bedrooms, private studio and other luxuries.

The tabloid adopts a braggadocios tone when it starts to casually reference Prince Harry and Markle’s future “A-list neighbors” like Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey, Sean Penn and others. It’s supposedly got Markle eagerly searching for “yoga and Pilates classes.” The Duchess of Sussex is even already researching “organic health food stores” in the surrounding area, according to the outlet.

There’s one major issue with New Idea’s story: the house the royals supposedly bought is still for sale. Gossip Cop investigated the photos of the Malibu estate the royals are said to have purchased. It’s the Point Dume estate, which is still listed for sale and accepting inquiries on various realty websites. The magazine simply found an expensive listing for a Los Angeles mansion and falsely matched it to the two royals.

Additionally, this idea of Prince Harry and his wife moving to California is a tired narrative, and it’s no surprise that all three of these tabloids have variations of the same story within days of one another. As Gossip Cop has pointed out multiple times before, it’s completely incorrect to assume that the British royals are capable of just moving out of the UK. Markle is required to spend a majority of her time there to earn British citizenship, something she has already stated is a goal of hers.

Furthermore, it’s absurd to presume that the couple would move simply on account of a spurt of bad publicity. Neither has ever expressed any inclination of abandoning their royal duties or their lives in the UK. This latest take on the subject is simply the gossip media trying to come up with a new angle based on the controversy surrounding the couple’s private flights.

Gossip Cop already debunked Grazia’s claims about Prince Harry and Markle buying a home in Malibu last year. We also called out New Idea in April 2018 for another very similar story about Prince Harry and Markle purchasing a Malibu beach house. The tabloids are clearly just reprinting the same old rumors year after year, despite the fact they’ve been consistently wrong. That remains the case.
