Meghan Markle's dad did not confirm she's pregnant with twins, contrary to a misleading and inaccurate tabloid cover story. As Gossip Cop has already reported, the Duchess of Sussex is not expecting twins. We can bust this new report.
"Royal Twins! Meghan's Dad Confirms The Happy News," announces the cover of Woman's Day Australia. According to the magazine, Markle and Prince Harry are "expecting twins," and her father, Thompson Markle, "virtually confirmed the news last week." The outlet is referring to his "Good Morning Britain" interview, in which it's claimed he "let the cat out of the bag." But he did not say his daughter was pregnant.
Rather, Markle's father spoke about her wanting children, and predicted, "There's got to be a child in the making, somewhere soon." While the publication is using that as confirmation that the former "Suits" star is currently expecting, in his very next sentence her dad said, "I don't think there is a stork in the air yet." So he in no way "let the cat out of the bag" that his daughter is pregnant.
As for the contention that there's two babies on the way, the tabloid doesn't have real proof for that, either. After claiming that Markle is pregnant with twins, the magazine adds, "That's the word from the US media." But no reputable "US media" has asserted the Duchess is expecting. Such allegations have only come from fellow tabloids, most recently OK!, which last week lied on its cover about the palace confirming Markle is pregnant with twins.
Prior to that, Life & Style and the National Enquirer also peddled such bogus claims, and Gossip Cop explained that all three magazines are now run by the same publishing company. They are printing similar narratives not because the assertions are true but because they are in cahoots with each other. And now Woman's Day is picking up the baton and running with it, purporting that "another palace aide confirmed the news," saying, "They'd love nothing more than a boy and a girl."
To recap, the tabloid is twisting an interview with Markle's father and relying on already debunked twins storylines from OK! and others to make readers think she is expecting. There's no question that Markle is going to be pregnant one day. But it appears today is not that day.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
