Meghan Markle is not pregnant in the official engagement photos released on Monday, despite speculation that she has a baby bump underneath her white Line the Label coat. Shortly after it was announced that Prince Harry proposed to Markle after dating the actress for 17 months, a number of outlets began publishing articles questioning whether Markle is also carrying the next royal family member. Gossip Cop looked into it, and we've been guaranteed by Markle's rep that she is "most certainly not expecting."
The Mirror, for example, published a piece that begins, "People think a royal baby is on the way after seeing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement pictures." The British tabloid notes that fans of the couple "aren't content with one big announcement in a day," and points out how when Markle and Prince Harry greeted the media at Kensington Palace, her coat "bunched up a little around her tummy, prompting speculation she had something to hide." To bolster the theory, the paper included tweets from people who think Markle may already have a baby bump.
One Twitter user with the handle @Sara_s_Tea wrote, "Meghan pregnant. Mark my words." Another individual who goes by @BlakKofee on Twitter expressed, "Meghan Markle looks pregnant already." But despite their guesses based on photos (below), Markle is not carrying a child. A Markle rep exclusively assures Gossip Cop, "She is most certainly not expecting."
This is not the first time, however, a publication has wrongly claimed Markle is pregnant with Prince Harry's baby. Just a month ago, Gossip Cop busted OK! when it ran a completely fabricated cover story that declared, "Harry & Meghan: New Royal Baby!" In that untrue report, the issue claimed to have the "first bump photos." But it was all a lie. Markle's rep exclusively told us, "Meghan is not pregnant." Unfathomably, the photo the tabloid used as proof that the actress had a baby bump was actually taken in 2014.
As Gossip Cop reported earlier on Monday, it was announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got engaged in London a couple of weeks ago. The official statement from Clarence House read in part that Prince Charles was "delighted to announce the engagement" and that the "wedding will take place in Spring 2018." Not long afterwards, Prince William and Kate Middleton also expressed how they're "very excited for Harry and Meghan."
Nowhere in any of the official statements was it even intimated that the newly engaged couple are also going to become parents. However, during a TV interview after the engagement announcement, the redheaded royal was about asked having kids. Prince Harry told the BBC, "One step at a time and hopefully we'll start a family in the near future." Clearly then, she's not currently expecting.
Sadly, we're not entirely surprised by the latest pregnancy speculation. There have been a slew of untrue tales about Prince Harry's fiancee ever since the two began dating. In fact, Gossip Cop had a hard time whittling down all the falsehoods out there for our story about five wrong rumors about Markle. For the time being, the only thing fertile are the imaginations of those who think they see a baby bump on Markle.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
