Meghan Markle is not being "urged" to choose Kate Middleton as her maid of honor when she marries Prince Harry, despite a manufactured report. Gossip Cop can reveal the truth behind this latest fabrication.
According to the perpetually disproven Celeb Dirty Laundry, the "Suits" actress is being encouraged to ask the Duchess of Cambridge to be her "right-hand woman" at her "upcoming" wedding in order to keep the ceremony a "royal family affair." Without a single source to back up its baseless claim, the repeatedly discredited website goes on to purport, "Picking Kate Middleton as her maid of honor would be a tasteful move." The clueless outlet further contends, "Queen Elizabeth is no fan of Hollywood," and the "last thing she would want to see is a bunch of C-list celebrities treat the royal wedding like another party."
Bizarrely, this made-up assertion is coming from the same website that has previously lied about tension between Markle and Middleton in a number of article. For example, Gossip Cop called out the site just months ago when it ridiculously asserted that Middleton was resisting Markle's "push" into the royal family. Additionally, we debunked the outlet for having falsely alleged Middleton was competing with Markle over charity work. Irrespective of the blog's unreliability, Gossip Cop still looked into the maid of honor claim.
Of course, if the site had fact-checked its story before posting it online, it would have realized that its premise is simply not possible. In keeping with royal protocol, Middleton could not possibly be Markle's maid of honor, since the role is usually reserved for unmarried and single women. What's more, while it's been said that Middleton and the actress get along well, the position of Markle's maid of honor will likely go to a family member or close friend of hers, much like when Middleton's sister Pippa served as her maid of honor in 2011. More importantly, though, currently there is no such wedding in the works.
Of course, here at Gossip Cop, we're not surprised by the outlet's most recent fabrication. In August, we corrected the site for wrongly claiming Markle was using Prince Harry to boost her Hollywood career. With one falsehood being piled on top of another, it's hard to take CDL's "royal" reporting seriously.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
