A story claiming Meghan Markle has “lost sleep” fretting about her estranged relatives as her wedding nears is as ridiculous as it is false. Gossip Cop can bust this silly story. The bride-to-be is focused on preparations for her big day, not wasting energy focusing on people who won’t actually have any effect on the nuptials.

The suspect claims come from Us Weekly, which alleges Markle’s “nerves are starting to set in” before she marries Prince Harry because of problems with her extended family. The tabloid asserts some of the “Suits” star’s estranged relatives are “making it their business to catch a glimpse of her special day,” namely by signing on to provide TV commentary as networks broadcast the historic event. Consequently, a so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “Meghan is really worried about some [of] these members of her family.”

What’s making “matters more difficult,” contends the gossip magazine, is that since her engagement to Prince Harry was announced, “Markle’s family have been speaking to the press about her.” Claims the outlet’s supposed source, “She’s lost sleep over relatives who’ve screwed her over. It’s the one thing she’s struggled with most since meeting Harry.” And as a result, the alleged tipster maintains Markle is “finding it really hard to trust people she meets now.”

But there are few problems with these claims. Markle’s estranged relatives haven’t only been talking to the press since she became engaged to Prince Harry in November. These distant family members have been going to the gossip media the relationship was first revealed in 2016. For example, Markle’s half-sister Samantha Grant did an interview with “ET” in November of 2016, a year before Prince Harry popped the question. It is simply untrue to suggest Grant has only been blabbing to the media in the wake of the engagement.

It also makes little sense to connect Markle’s feelings about her estranged family members to whether she can trust people she meets now. While her half-siblings may have big mouths, to use a figure of speech, that doesn’t mean those she’s meeting through her new royal life shouldn’t be trusted. If anything, Markle should feel more assured that her confidences are being kept and that those surrounding her are loyal. Vetting of royal staff was upgraded in 2004, more than a decade ago. And earlier this year, the royal family revealed it was hiring more vetting officers, who are specifically responsible for ensuring everyone around members of the monarchy are up to snuff.

As for Markle supposedly being “worried” over her estranged relatives serving as wedding correspondents for media outlets, what could they possibly reveal at this point that hasn’t already been uncovered? It’s not like they have inside access on what’s currently going on in the actress’ life. When Markle’s nephew revealed on TV this week that he did not get an invitation to the wedding, he admitted he hasn’t spoken to her in three years.

Lastly, even the publication’s contention that Markle is trying to “avoid paying attention to any of the family drama” is laughable. Unlike the other claims, which are easily countered, this one is just provably obvious. Of course she isn’t paying attention. Markle can’t exactly sit around fretting about what her estranged family members have or haven’t said lately, given the demands of her royal schedule. Just last week, on top of wedding planning, Markle also had to fit in an official trip to Ireland with Prince Harry.

And when her wedding day arrives, the bride will be way too busy, not to mention away from television sets, to fixate on what distant relatives are or aren’t saying about her on TV. So is Markle actually dealing with a situation that should really be causing her to stress to the point of losing sleep? The clear answer is no. But it’s not surprising that the same tabloid that tried to dupe readers last year with a “trouble in paradise” cover story (see below) is being misleading again.
