Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton‘s friendship is not “exaggerated,” contrary to a false claim from a blog known for peddling bogus stories about the royals and other stars. Gossip Cop can debunk this latest article.
Celeb Dirty Laundry asserts Middleton is “apparently giving” Markle “the helping hand she needs as she adjusts to her new life in London,” but alleges “one tabloid publication” is “exaggerating Kate and Meghan’s supposed friendship behind closed doors.” Though no name is given, it seems the site is referring to People. The reputable magazine’s current cover story is about the soon-to-be sisters-in law, with the front of the issue declaring, “Inside Their New Friendship.” (See above.)
The article was written by Michelle Tauber, who is the respected publication’s senior editor for royals coverage. Reporting was done, in part, by Simon Perry and Phil Boucher, the outlet’s chief foreign correspondent and a London-based correspondent, respectively. Perry is stationed in the U.K. as well. They haven’t sloppily put together some frivolous, questionable tale, but a thoroughly-reported, credible package based on the many contacts they’ve amassed over the years.
But here is a gossip website with no sources of its own maintaining the story is phony. “Of course, Buckingham Palace would love for critics to believe that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are getting along quite well behind closed doors,” suppositions the online outlet. “But even royal observers know that it will take a very long time before Kate Middleton gets used to the idea that she’s not the only female star of the royal family anymore.”
Without anything to substantiate its contentions, the blog alleges it “won’t be easy” for Middleton to “learn how to share all of the attention that she usually gets from the press.” It’s further claimed “some even believe that Kate might be feeling threatened.” The site goes on to wrongly contend that “so far neither Kate Middleton nor Meghan Markle have made any comments about their supposed friendship.”
Actually, Markle specifically spoke of Middleton in November, calling her “wonderful.” Prince Harry also noted that the Duchess was being “absolutely amazing” towards his new fiancee. The spouses-to-be even stayed with Middleton and Prince William at Anmer Hall during Christmas. While they may not be best friends at this point in time, it’s ridiculous to deny the obvious: Markle and Middleton clearly have a growing friendship. A few royal experts are already comparing their blossoming bond to that of Princess Diana and Fergie.
It’s not a “tabloid” that is “exaggerating,” but Celeb Dirty Laundry itself, which has been on a campaign to paint the two women at odds ever since Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry went public in 2016. The website even absurdly speculated last month whether Markle and Middleton can “get along.” They already are. CDL just doesn’t want them to.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
