Meghan Markle is not wearing a ring with the letter “H” for Prince Harry, nor did the royal gift her with the gold band, despite a new claim that was widely picked up. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this. We’re told it’s not what it seems.
TMZ got the rumor mill going when it reported on Friday that Markle was spotted in Toronto with “new bling” that had “Harry’s initial all over it.” Not surprisingly, “Entertainment Tonight” regurgitated the story and also claimed she was seen wearing “a golden ‘H’ ring,” before editorializing that it’s “adorable.” Similarly, People jumped on the bandwagon and maintained the “Suits” actress was sporting a “gold ring with Prince Harry’s initial on it.”
Interestingly, not one of the outlets noted that they fact-checked their articles with sources at Kensington Palace or individuals close to Markle. They simply went with what they thought they saw in paparazzi photos. Gossip Cop, however, did reach out to a Markle confidante, who acknowledged the ring does resemble the letter that begins the royal’s first name, but assures us it’s actually a decorative band, and “it’s not an H.” Says our source, “It’s a hamsa evil eye ring. No letters. No meaning.” Gossip Cop has also reached out for an official comment from the actress’s rep, but has yet to hear back.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Gossip Cop has busted a report that’s wrongly asserted Markle was wearing a piece of jewelry tied to her relationship with Prince Harry. Back in February, a number of outlets mistook another H-looking ring Markle wore and linked it to Prince Harry. As we reported at the time, the band was actually a Missoma ring, whose design of intersecting arrows created what appears to by an H, and was completely unrelated to Markle’s boyfriend.
This isn’t to say Prince Harry won’t one day get Markle a ring. Indeed, the couple are spending Easter together in Canada and have gotten very serious over the past few months. But despite reports alleging Markle and Prince Harry are engaged, including one that falsely claimed Queen Elizabeth picked out a ring for her grandson, right now talk of the redheaded royal giving his actress girlfriend a major piece of jewelry doesn’t ring true. Should the two take the next step, rest assured Gossip Cop will be among the first to have accurate information.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
