Meghan Markle has not "dumped" her friends in the wake of the royal wedding, despite a report. Gossip Cop can bust this story. It is provably false.

According to RadarOnline, Markle is "leaving her American friends and family in her glittering dust" after marrying Prince Harry and becoming a member of the royal family. It's alleged that "putting her past behind her" means ditching her longtime pals. A so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "Her old friends feel a little bit dumped. First, they attended her wedding at their own expense, and now Meghan is a little too busy for all of them."

"A lot of her old friends can't even reach her anymore," asserts this unidentifiable insider, who contends, "They don't know how to get in touch with Meghan and she's not getting in touch with them." Significantly, neither the site nor its alleged snitch name any one of these supposed "friends." The blog gives no examples of how any pal has been "dumped," and instead only makes generalized assertions.

One would think a knowledgeable "source" would be able to give specific details and offer unique insight on this alleged situation, instead of merely sharing that Markle has a "new email address and specialized British phone number." That's something virtually anyone would rationally assume given that she's moved to a new country and is now a part of the monarchy. But that doesn't mean she's no longer in touch with her close friends.

In fact, the whole world saw that Markle went to Wimbledon on Saturday to support Serena Williams. On top of that, Williams spoke about her bond with Markle in the days before the tennis finals, saying, "Our friendship is still exactly the same." That goes directly against this narrative.

Markle also recently received praise from another famous friend, Priyanka Chopra, who also made it apparent they're still close. "When you have real friendships, like ours, it doesn't matter what people look at you as or where your world goes, you sort of just stay friends. And I think that's what we're like," she said. Chopra, of course, isn't American, but she is based in the United States and part of the Hollywood scene. And her comments, like those from Williams, make clear she hasn't been "dumped."

Conclusion: There's no disputing Markle is busy. By July 2, she was booked for her eighth royal engagement since her May 19th wedding. But there are on-the-record statements from just last week in which two of her pals describe how their friendships are enduring and haven't changed. That stands in stark contrast to unsubstantiated remarks from an anonymous, untraceable "source." Gossip Cop is putting more value in things Markle's friends have actually said than a site that offers no proof to support its claims, which is why we're rating these allegations as "fiction" on our truth meter.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
