Is Meghan Markle adopting a child from the Third World, so she can be like Princess Diana, Madonna, and Angelina Jolie? That is what's being claimed by one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the story, and there's nothing to substantiate it.

According to the National Enquirer, Markle wants to become the "first royal to adopt." The supermarket tabloid insinuates, though, her motivation for adopting a kid from an "impoverished" or "third world" country is possibly more about perception than about compassion. The magazine alleges it has a source who says Markle's "charity stunts" are really because she's "desperate to be seen as some kind of modern version of Di," who devoted herself to the plight of poor and sick children.

The unnamed tipster then asserts the Duchess of Sussex wants to follow the lead of Madonna and Jolie, who have children from Africa and Asia, "by adopting [to] give disadvantaged kids a great life." Perhaps in an attempt to cover itself for when she doesn't adopt a kid, the anonymous "source" adds how Markle's plan could "backfire" and "alienate senior royals" with her Hollywood ways.

The magazine's story is not only false, but it's also unoriginal. In fact, it seems like the Enquirer went back into its files from exactly a year ago when it came up with this tale. Last March, Gossip Cop busted the very same tabloid when it similarly claimed Markle and Prince Harry wanted to adopt "multiracial children" just like Jolie has done.

Several months later in August, the tabloid's sister publication, the Globe, ran a cover story that went a little further, maintaining Markle and Prince Harry had already adopted an "African baby." In that piece, an unidentified tipster was quoted as saying the royals want to "have a rainbow family like Angelina Jolie." It appears the inclusion of Princess Diana and Madonna in the current article is to make the latest report appear new and different.

In the past, when Gossip Cop reached out to Kensington Palace about adoption plans, it was laughed off. This time around, the royal household would not officially comment on the tabloid's narrative, as a matter of protocol, but it did dismiss the magazine's article as nothing more that "speculation."

Lastly, the publication has been shown to repeatedly be wrong with it various articles about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Last June, for instance, the outlet untruthfully declared Prince Harry and Markle were fighting and their marriage was in peril, just a month after exchanging vows. It's clear, as they're about to welcome a baby, they're perfectly happy together.

On the subject of the subject of babies, let's not forget how the same tabloid printed a cover story 10 months ago that insisted Markle was pregnant with twins. It contended back then she would give birth in February 2019, which has already passed. At the time of that tall tale, we even wrote, "Gossip Cop suspects the magazine is actually hoping this narrative is long forgotten by then." Well, we didn't forget about that lie, nor will we when it comes to the bogus adoption report which drags in Princess Diana, Madonna and Jolie.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
