Meg Ryan does NOT have "money woes," despite a new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the erroneous story.
"Miserable Meg's Money Woes," reads a headline in the new issue of Star. According to the magazine, the actress is "sleepless in New York City over her dire financial situation." It's specifically alleged, "America's erstwhile sweetheart is being forced to sell her beloved $10 million SoHo loft to stay afloat."
A so-called "friend" claims to the outlet, "Meg is in desperate need of a cash infusion. Acting offers aren't coming in like they used to and Hollywood execs are turned off by her diva reputation and weird plastic surgery. The savings Meg's been living off of are drying up." The publication ends its story by saying, "She's got mail... and it's all bills!"
But Star was wrong when it said Ryan was "broke" in 2015, and is still wrong now. Ryan is indeed selling her loft, as reported in February, but it has nothing do with needing money and everything to do with working on a passion project.
An ACTUAL friend of Ryan's exclusively tells Gossip Cop, "Meg, as a side interest, buys properties, remodels, lives in them for a bit and then sells, only to buy another property to redo. It's a passion of hers." While keeping her home in Martha's Vineyard, she's "looking for a new project in New York City to buy and renovate," we're told.
Our impeccable contact notes, "She has done this several times in the last 10 or so years. I wouldn't say she is a flipper like Ellen DeGeneres, but she really loves to renovate a home that she wants to live in for a while and then, when she feels she has done what she wants to that property, she sells it only to buy another."
That's all that's really going on here, and Gossip Cop is further told it's a "bit hilarious" that the tabloid got this story so wrong. But, since Star has repeatedly run inaccurate hit pieces on Ryan, it's a bit gross and shameful, too.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
