A tabloid report claiming Meg Ryan is desperate to join “Big Little Lies” is completely made-up. The actress hasn’t expressed a desire to get cast on the show. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the claim.

“Meg’s Big Little Dream Role,” reads a headline in the latest issue of Life & Style. The accompanying article says Ryan wants to make an acting comeback on the hit HBO series starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern.

The magazine quotes a supposed “source” as saying, “Meg has known Reese Witherspoon for years and
is a huge fan of her work. Meg loves everything that ‘Big Little Lies’ represents and is desperate to be a part of it.” The actress is known for her many classic romantic comedies, but the questionable insider says, “There’s a part of Meg that wants to venture out and do something darker. And ‘Big Little Lies’ is right up her alley!”

The magazine’s article is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable “source,” but Gossip Cop checked in with a spokesperson qualified to speak on Ryan’s behalf, and we’re told the story is fabricated. The actress’s rep explains, “Meg is developing a few projects, some of them TV, but I am not aware of anything related to ‘Big Little Lies,’ which I don’t think has been renewed yet for a third season.” That’s in fact the case.

The second season of the series just wrapped filming earlier last month and the show doesn’t premiere until 2019, so the magazine’s article is very premature, in addition to being untrue. Earlier this year, HBO exec Casey Bloys said a third season of “Big Little Lies” hasn’t been discussed yet. “Everybody involved is so busy that it’s hard to imagine aligning everybody’s schedule again,” he noted. “The fact that we were able to get season two together is a small miracle. Could we do it again? Who knows?!”

Although it’s entirely possible that Season 3 could come to fruition, Ryan isn’t “desperate” to join a project that’s not currently in development. It’s possible this story was created because Meryl Streep, another established actress, became a new addition to the show’s second season. But if a third season of the show does happen, it’s a long way off.

Meanwhile, Life & Style has a history of making up stories about the production of “Big Little Lies.” Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming that Witherspoon and Streep were in a “power struggle” on set. This latest article surrounding the series is similarly bogus.
