Matthew Perry is not pursuing Ben Stiller's estranged wife, Christine Taylor, despite a wrong and random tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the romance rumors. We're told the story is made-up.

According to the National Enquirer, Perry has had a crush on Taylor ever since the actress guest-starred on "Friends" in 1997. As the story goes, the actor never made a move because Taylor was "very serious" with Stiller at the time. A so-called "source" tells the site, "Now he's got a second chance and is a lot less afraid of Ben than when he was in his 20s."

However, this is all factually incorrect from the onset. Taylor and Stiller didn't start dating until 1999, two years after her appearance on "Friends." The exes met while filming the pilot for an unaired TV show titled "Heat Vision and Jack." When it comes to accuracy, it's not a good sign that the magazine's "insider" isn't even aware of when the estranged spouses first got together.

Still, the alleged tipster claims Perry "loves the idea of being a stepdad" to Taylor's two young kids, while the actress "is looking for a guy with ambition, a sense of humor and, of course, almost unlimited financial resources." The seemingly phony source concludes, "Matt's determined to woo Christine, no matter what Ben thinks. Ben hasn't moved on yet, but Christine could be ready to find love again with Matt."

Despite a major aspect of the tabloid's report being provably untrue, Gossip Cop still checked in with a mutual pal of ours and Taylor, who exclusively assures us on background that she and Perry aren't developing a romance. From what we understand, the two were friendly while shooting "Friends" back in the '90s, but they haven't been in touch as of late. There's simply no truth to the magazine's account of events.

Unfortunately, the Enquirer's sister outlet, RadarOnline, has also posted this phony narrative on its website. That's not too surprising, however, considering that the blog recently made up a story about Jennifer Aniston hating Perry. Gossip Cop busted the article after the actress's rep assured us, "She adores Matt." This latest report dragging the actor into Stiller and Taylor's split is equally baseless.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
