One of this week's tabloids is claiming that Matthew McConaughey drinks and parties "out of control" when he's out of town and away from wife Camila Alves. There's no truth the ridiculous story. Gossip Cop can confirm it's all made-up.

According to the National Enquirer, however, the actor "can't kick his party-hearty ways." A supposed source is quoting as saying, "When he's away from his wife and kids... he lets loose." The so-called "insider" specifically mentions New York City as McConaughey's "favorite place to get crazy" because "he knows the bars that let him slide under the radar."

The questionable tipster goes on to say that Alves is "OK with him partying before Texas Longhorn games" because he's a longtime fan of the college football team, so she'll make an exception. "But she might not be so open-minded if she knew" about his New York bar romps, adds the unreliable outlet.

Gossip Cop checked with an individual in McConaughey's camp, who tells us "nothing could be further from the truth." Our reliable source notes that the actor "is working too much" to even find the time to party. With two movies released this year and two more in production for next year, not to mention his producing work and his charity work, it's pretty obvious that the actor's career is keeping him busy.

Meanwhile, McConaughey and Alves have three children under the age of 12, which is sure to keep them both on their toes as well. The idea that he's secretly drinking and partying at bars in New York City during his downtime is ridiculous. There's also zero photo or video evidence to back up this premise.

It should be noted, Gossip Cop has had to debunk related and equally untrue narratives in the past. In 2016, the Enquirer's sister publication, OK!, falsely claimed Alves was tired of McConaughey being an "absentee father." We debunked that bogus story when a source close to Alves told us, "She goes to every movie set with him and brings the kids."

McConaughey is hardly an absentee father, and a quick look through Alves' Instagram feed shows many posts praising her husband. For example, on Father's Day 2018, Alves shared a picture of her, McConaughey and their three children, along with the caption, "I can sit here and write a long text... but, words cannot describe... period. Thank you." It's clear the couple have a very happy and healthy relationship.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
