Matt Lauer did not attempt suicide after being fired from the “Today” show over allegations of sexual harassment, despite a false and tasteless report. The bogus claim comes from a fake news site known for peddling outrageous conspiracy theories. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

As Gossip Cop reported earlier this week, NBC fired Lauer for “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace” after Variety and The New York Times published articles detailing alleged sexual misconduct towards several female colleagues. On Friday, the blog Conservative Stamp published the shocking headline, “BREAKING: Matt Lauer On 72-Hour Suicide Watch After Failed Attempt To Hang Himself.”

The untrustworthy outlet goes on to say Lauer’s alleged suicide attempt is being “covered up” by those close to the ousted news anchor, who was supposedly found by his housekeeper shortly after trying to take his life, according to the disreputable blog. The site quotes her as saying, ““Mr Matthew tried [to] kill himself. He hang [sic] himself but the pipe it no [sic] hold. He hurt himself but he [is] okay.”

The provably untrue story goes on to contend that Lauer was admitted to the “Fairpoint Mental Health and Rehabilitative Services,” but no such establishment appears to exist. There’s also no city or town named “Fairpoint” anywhere close to the former news anchor’s homes in New York. And above all, Lauer was just spotted in the Hamptons on Thursday.

Regardless of the site’s story being provably untrue, Gossip Cop still looked into the situation, and we can confirm that Lauer has not attempted suicide. This isn’t the first time we’ve had to call out Conservative Stamp for publishing fake news. Gossip Cop recently busted the unreliable outlet for falsely claiming Oprah condemned Michelle and Barack Obama’s “out-of-control” daughter Malia. This latest article surrounding Lauer’s sexual harassment scandal is equally bogus.
