Has Matt Lauer’s wife warned him not to cheat with Megyn Kelly when she starts at NBC? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

According to the National Enquirer, “love rat” Lauer has been warned by his wife, Annette Roque, to “stay clear” of “NBC newbie” Kelly. What’s more, the supermarket tabloid goes on to allege Roque could take half his fortune, if he cheats, by “pulling the plug on their 19-year marriage.” A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “Matt has a reputation as a ladies’ man, and he’s long been dogged by cheating rumors.”

The outlet’s questionable insider further purports that in addition to spousal and child support payments, “Matt could wind up losing millions in a divorce, plus the $36 million estate in the Hamptons he bought for the family last year.” Meanwhile, Lauer “thinks the world of Megyn,” concludes the publication’s tipster.

Here’s what’s really going on. Ever since it was announced that Kelly was going to NBC, the tabloids have scurried to find angles about her supposedly feuding with Lauer. Some magazines even claimed Lauer was being replaced by Kelly. But all those articles were lies, and so is this new story.

Let Gossip Cop set the record straight on this newly manufactured report. A source close to the “Today” show anchor assures us the Enquirer’s latest story is 100 percent “not true.” Lauer’s wife has not “warned” him to stay away from the also married Kelly. Our impeccable insider also notes how the tabloid’s quotes sound incredibly fake. Indeed, what real person would say in normal speech that Lauer could lose million, “plus the $36 million estate in the Hamptons he bought for the family last year.” And rather than facts, the magazine fudges with a nebulous comment about the longtime “Today” anchor being “dogged by cheating rumors.”

Of course, this is not the first time Gossip Cop has called out the tabloid for publishing untrue stories about the news anchor. In September, during the 2016 presidential campaign, we corrected the publication when it wrongly claimed Lauer was getting fired from the “Today” show because of how he moderated a presidential forum between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. That wasn’t true, and the same goes for this latest article that falsely maintains Lauer’s wife has warned him about cheating with Kelly
