A new report claiming Matt Damon is “distancing himself” from Ben Affleck amid the actor’s personal issues is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can correct the bogus premise. We’ve debunked this narrative in the past and it remains false.
According to RadarOnline, Damon is planning “a total overhaul of his social circle” by ridding himself of friends surrounded by controversies. One such pal is Affleck, who spent 40 days in rehab earlier this year. An alleged insider tells the blog, “After being dragged down by his close association with Ben… Matt is making a real effort to fix his good name.” The outlet goes on to say that Damon is focusing on his friendship with Chris Hemsworth and other people in show business with clean-cut images.
“He’s going through a little restlessness in middle age and fixing his image was the kind of challenge he needed right about now,” adds the site’s supposed source. “He’s acquiring some stable, ‘normal’ friends he can share the journey with.”
The unreliable blog fails to mention that Damon and Affleck attended game five of the World Series together just last week. The Boston natives cheered on the Red Sox as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the title. That alone disproves the site’s premise. It’s also worth noting, shortly after Affleck checked into rehab in August, People magazine reported that Damon “has and will always be there for Ben” amid his struggle with addiction.
Last year, E! News published an article dedicated to Affleck and Damon’s “enduring friendship,” which has remained strong throughout all the ups and downs in their lives. The two actors met as kids and have been lifelong pals since. Earlier this year, Damon revealed that Affleck helped him cope with his father’s death, and noted, “The guy is like a brother to me.”
RadarOnline has been claiming for quite some time that there’s been a fallout between the close friends, but that’s simply never been the case. In April, Gossip Cop busted the blog for falsely claiming that Damon had “banned” Affleck from his life. In August, the unreliable website alleged that Damon “dumped” Affleck as a friend amid his latest stint in rehab.
This ongoing narrative is flat-out false. In fact, the two actors aren’t just close pals, but producing partners as well. They’re working on a number of projects together through their joint production company Pearl Street Films. One of those projects is a true-crime movie about an ex-cop who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game. Damon will star in the movie and Affleck is directing.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
