Matt Damon has not "banned" Ben Affleck from his life because he believes staying friends with the actor will be bad for his marriage and career, despite a false report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this claim. We're told it's completely fabricated.
"Matt Bans Bloated Bestie Ben From His Life Amid Bad Boy Behavior," reads a ridiculous new RadarOnline headline. The accompanying article says Damon has dumped his close friend of more than two decades over recent controversies, including Affleck's alleged infidelities during his marriage to Jennifer Garner and his connection to Harvey Weinstein.
An alleged insider tells the blog that Damon's wife Luciana Barroso pressured the actor to cut ties with Affleck, as did his professional advisors. According to the questionable source, Damon agreed to dump his friend in order to save both his relationship and career. The supposed tipster further contends the actor has replaced Affleck with Chris Hemsworth, and now "it's like Ben never existed."
None of this is accurate. For starters, Affleck and Damon are producing partners who are currently developing a number of projects together. Their production company, Pearl Street Films, recently received positive press after announcing it will adopt inclusion riders, a stipulation ensuring diversity among a film's cast and crew.
Additionally, Damon recently defended Affleck after his pal was mocked in the media for getting a large, colorful tattoo on the entirety of his back. "I support him in all of his artistic expression," Damon said on "The Daily Show" when asked about his friend's ink. Between continuing to work with Affleck and standing up for him on national television, Damon clearly hasn't banned his friend from his life.
It's also worth noting, E! recently published a piece about Damon and Affleck's "enduring friendship," which has spanned more than two decades. The headline reads, "How They Survived Scandal, Heartbreak and Tabloid Fodder." The article notes that both have received negative press over the years, but they've had each other's backs through all their ups and downs. That remains the case today.
Regardless of the site's article being provably untrue, Gossip Cop still checked in with a mutual pal of ours and Damon, who exclusively assures us on background that he and Affleck are still very close. We're further told that no one in Damon's life, including his wife and managers, urged him to drop Affleck as a friend. This is simply a non-story.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
