Matt Damon did not convince Ben Affleck to dump Playboy model Shauna Sexton, despite a new report that's predicated entirely on one unnamed "source." Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim. Damon's camp, which has no reason to deny to story (other than to set the record straight), tells us it's all untrue.

According to RadarOnline, friends like Damon have wanted Affleck to get "healthier" without Sexton, who the site refers to as a "party girl fling." Editorializing somewhat, the blog claims Affleck "came to his senses and dumped" the Playboy model after a "long chat with Matt." Ultimately, asserts the magazine, Damon "convinced" his friend to cut Sexton loose, but not before tearing into the Justice League star for being insensitive and taking his gal pal, right after his divorce was finalized, to the Montana home he shares with Garner.

In unnaturally expository language, the site quotes a supposed "source" as saying, "Ben's friends were blown away that he would have the nerve to take a 22-year-old Playmate, who's just a fling, to his newly ex-wife's house where his kids sleep." A skeptic might wonder whether the quote was entirely fabricated to get in Sexton's age and profession, while also driving home the connection to Garner and his recently changed marital status. Regardless, the same unidentifiable "source" adds that Affleck's pals feel what he did was "gross" and "wrong," but that it "finally registered with Ben," who then broke up with Sexton.

What's particularly interesting is that now the website maintains it was Damon who convinced his pal to dump the Playboy model, but just 24 hours earlier the exact same outlet contended Affleck's split with Sexton was caused by Garner, who was "the reason behind" it. The blog even titled its article, "Reason For Split? Jen Slammed Ben's Romantic Getaway With Ex Shauna." A skeptic might think the outlet doesn't care whether its stories, separated by hours conflict, as long as they get traffic.

It's also interesting that the website would now credit the Gone Girl star's old pal with convincing him to part ways with Sexton, because just a few weeks ago RadarOnline swore up and down that Affleck got "dumped" by Damon while in rehab. In that report, which Gossip Cop also debunked, the frequently inaccurate blog asserted their "relationship had deteriorated" and Damon would "not be by his side" going forward. A skeptic might think the site's sources are made-up, otherwise how can they be so contradictory and wrong so often.

Lastly, it's interesting the website neglected to mention whether Affleck and Sexton got engaged while in Montana. We bring this up because a little more than a week ago, Gossip Cop busted the very same site when it falsely maintained Affleck was proposing to Sexton right after rehab. Because of all the provably untrue articles churned out by that blog about Affleck, which relies on anonymous and possibly fabricated sources, we went straight to Damon's camp. A rep, speaking on behalf of the star, exclusively tells Gossip Cop that the latest tale about Damon convincing Affleck to dump Sexton is "crazy."

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
