Mandy Harvey AGT Golden Buzzer

Simon Cowell used the Golden Buzzer for a deaf singer named Mandy Harvey on Tuesday’s “America’s Got Talent.” Watch the video below!

Before Harvey performed, she explained that when she was 18 years old she lost her hearing due to a connective tissue disorder. “Everything that I ever wanted was going away,” she recalled in a video before her audition. She then told Cowell that she was able to sing through muscle memorization and visualization, as well as feeling the vibrations.

She then said she was going to sing a song she wrote called “Try.” Before performing, Harvey explained that the song was about not giving up. “I want to do more with my life than give up,” she further noted of the song, which had the catchy refrain of “I will try.” Suffice to say, she was fantastic.

After she finished, Cowell told Harvey she didn’t need a translator for what he wanted to say, and instead he hit the Golden Buzzer, as the entire crowd gave her a standing ovation. “That was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen and heard,” Cowell then told an emotional Harvey. He continued, “I never think that I will be surprised or amazed by people,” and yet she did both, he admitted. “The song was beautiful,” added Cowell.

As Gossip Cop has reported, the Golden Buzzer was introduced in Season 9 of the reality competition show and allows the judges to send an act of their choice directly to the live quarterfinals, regardless of how the rest of the panel voted. Each judge only gets to push the button once during the auditions, and Cowell rightfully used it on Tuesday night in honor of Harvey.

Last week, on the Season 12 premiere, as Gossip Cop noted, Mel B used the Golden Buzzer for 12-year-old ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer. Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel still have their Golden Buzzers to use during the third round of auditions next week.
