Did producers on the upcoming “American Idol” reboot tell Lionel Richie to stop getting so much Botox? Gossip Cop looked into the claim and we’ve exclusively learned the truth.

“Lionel’s Botox Bonanza” blares a headline in the latest issue of Star. The accompanying article contends that the 68-year-old singer has been undergoing a ton of cosmetic work to look good for his gig as a judge on the reality competition show, but ABC executives want him to slow down. A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “Lionel’s obsessed with staying young, but he’s on the verge of looking bizarre. They want viewers talking about how great the show is – not Lionel’s frozen face!”

But Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the singer, who exclusively tells us the outlet’s article is both “not true” and “rude.” An ABC insider also assures us there’s no truth to the report. It’s possible this story was concocted because there’s been speculation that Richie has gotten cosmetic work since he looks young for his age, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Regardless, “American Idol” bosses haven’t instructed him to lay off Botox.

It should be noted, Gossip Cop has had to debunk a number of tall tales surrounding the reboot of the singing competition show in the time since it was announced as returning. We recently busted Star’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for falsely claiming that Richie was feuding with fellow judge Katy Perry because he think she acts like a “diva” behind the scenes.

Shortly before that nonsense, Gossip Cop called out In Touch for publishing a similarly false story alleging that Richie and Perry lacked chemistry while filming the upcoming reality series. Unfortunately, it seems likely that the tabloids will come up with many more phony reports about the popular show now that it’s coming back.
