Is Lindsay Lohan really begging Meryl Streep to help her make a comeback? That's what one of the tabloids is saying. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
Streep and Lohan played mother and daughter in the 2006 movie A Prairie Home Companion. Earlier this month, Lohan shared an Instagram photo of a 2006 W Magazine cover featuring the pair. She added the caption, "Good old times." The actress's post inspired OK! to come up with a story about Lohan begging her former co-star for career guidance.
"She made a pitch to Meryl and asked her to let her know if she has any upcoming film projects, as she's now a different, more stable person," a supposed source tells the magazine. "Lindsay explained that she's longing to find a role to sink her teeth into and prove to the world she's not the loser they think she is."
The alleged insider goes on to say that Streep accepted her plea, adding, "Meryl's a softie for a hard-luck story and is putting out feelers to get her some work. There was a time Meryl thought Lindsay would've won an Oscar or two by now - that's how much she believes in her. So she's determined to help her write her redemption story."
The tabloid's report is a work of fiction inspired by an Instagram post. Lohan simply shared a throwback photo of her and Streep, apropos of nothing but having fond memories of working with her. It's not even the first time the Mean Girls stars has shared a photo of the Oscar winner on her timeline. Last year, Lohan posted a throwback photo of herself, Streep and Angelina Jolie at a 2005 benefit, along with the caption, "What a blessed moment."
Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who tells us OK!'s article is fabricated. Lohan hasn't been begging Streep to help relaunch her career. In fact, we've debunked variations of this theme in the past.
Last year, Gossip Cop called out NW for falsely claiming Lohan was begging Ben Affleck to help her score the lead role in a Batgirl movie. Affleck, who's no longer playing Batman, has nothing to do with any sort of Batgirl project.
In 2017, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for wrongly reporting that Lohan was begging Tina Fey for a role in the Broadway version of Mean Girls. That story was also fictional. For whatever reason, the gossip media has been pushing this ongoing narrative about Lohan begging other celebrities for work. It's not the case.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
