Is Liam Payne begging Cheryl Tweedy to move to Los Angeles? That's the claim coming from a British tabloid. As it turns out, though, the UK gossip magazines aren't any better than the American ones. Gossip Cop is told by Payne's rep the claim is "total trash."
The current issue of Heat features an article with the headline, "Liam Begs Cheryl: I Want You In L.A." According to the report, Payne "would love" Cheryl and their 10-month-old son, Bear, to "move there with him," but she "isn't ready to uproot her life in Surrey," England. A so-called "Chiam insider" asserts Payne "spent half of last year in the U.S.," which meant "doing a lot of long-distance flights and juggling his schedule to make sure he can be back in the UK" for his family.
Now, though, the outlet's supposed source alleges he "thinks it's important for him to be based over in the U.S. full-time for his career." And, contends the purported tipster, he "wants Cheryl and Bear there with him... Then they can do holidays [in the UK] when he has time off, as well as living the L.A. lifestyle in the sunshine. Long term, he thinks it's the best thing for them as a family."
But because Payne "travels a lot" due to his career and Cheryl has "her own routine for her and Bear in the UK, he's offered to soften the blow by letting her choose where they live" in California, contends the publication. "He's giving Cheryl free rein. His previous house in Calabasas was so far out of L.A., and the place he currently rents is unsuitable for a young child. He has been showing her brochures of all these fabulous houses in Beverly Hills that they can live in," explains the alleged snitch.
For the record, the travel distance between Calabasas and Los Angeles is about the same as that of Surrey and London, roughly one hour. But the problem, maintains the tabloid, is that Cheryl "can't be persuaded [to move] at the moment." The magazine's "insider" claims, "Her argument is that it will be so much more difficult for her to launch her solo career in a country where no one knows her... She is saying that surely they can just make it work this way." "Of course Liam respects this," adds the questionable source, "but he loves the idea of moving out to L.A. in the near future."
It's true Cheryl has been working on new music. It's also true Payne has spoken candidly about the difficulty of leaving Bear and his partner when he has to travel for work. But that problem wouldn't be resolved by relocating their home base to L.A. No matter where the couple has their main residence, they'll still have to travel extensively for work if they want to do concert tours, as well as radio and TV appearances. They can live in L.A., but Payne would still need to go to Europe, so they'd just be faced with the same issue as the one they're supposedly dealing with now. It's the nature of the music business.
It's almost as if Heat didn't think this through logically and just wanted to present a dramatic story that puts the couple at odds. This is the same publication that previously branded Cheryl a "mumzilla," so rationality doesn't seem its strong suit. While the tabloid quotes an unknown "insider," Payne's rep made a point to not only confirm exclusively to Gossip Cop that this tale about the singer begging Cheryl to move is untrue, but the spokesperson also called the report "complete and utter trash." It doesn't get any clearer than that.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
