When you’re Liam Payne, your 22nd birthday lasts far more than just 24 hours, at least with One Direction fans on social media.

Payne’s birthday first became a trending topic on Twitter Friday, hours before the clock even stuck midnight in the U.K. By Saturday morning in the U.S., “HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIAM” was a trend. Some dedicated Payne admirers even got “#HappyBirthdayLiamFromBrazil” on the worldwide list.

Really, though, many Directioners have been talking about Payne’s birthday all week. When One Direction performed in Cleveland on Thursday (see photo above), there was much chatter about it being Payne’s last show as a 21-year-old. And when Harry Styles posted a photo of a birthday cake on Instagram, everyone assumed it was in honor of his band mate.

Payne no doubt has a lot to celebrate. He remains in a happily committed relationship with girlfriend Sophia Smith. One Direction marked its fifth anniversary earlier this summer, and the group’s new single “Drag Me Down” broke records when it was released earlier this month.

And though the guys will be taking a hiatus next year, there is still another album first to be pumped about, and Payne is thrilled to see fans being understanding about the break. He tweeted earlier this week, “So glad everything has been cleared up today and ur support with it is amazing not that we could ever expect anything less your amazing.”

“Can’t wait to put more time into everything we do and coming out with something great,” continued the British star. “Thank you so much for everything you have done for us it’s been the most amazing five years and there’s so much more to come.” Of course, if Payne ever needs a pick-me-up, he needn’t look any further than all the birthday tributes currently flooding Twitter. Gossip Cop wishes Liam a happy one, and many more.
