Liam Neeson Action Movies Retire

Liam Neeson is retracting recent comments he made about retiring from action movies because he’s getting too old. The actor had suggested at last week’s Toronto International Film Festival that he’s done being an action hero and will turn back to dramatic roles once again. But on Thursday’s “Today” show, Neeson admits he may have spoke too soon.

The actor appeared on the morning talk show to promote his new political drama, Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House, which tells the story of the 1974 Watergate scandal. During the interview, a concerned Matt Lauer questioned Neeson’s decision to retire from action flicks. “Your name came up in the office yesterday,” the “Today” anchor said. “This idea that you’re going to give up action movies did not go over well. What’s the reason for it?”

Lauer was referring to Neeson’s recent interview with Sky News, in which he implied his days of fighting crime on the big screen were over. “They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff,” he told the outlet. “Guy’s I’m sixty-f***ing-five. Audiences are eventually going to go, ‘Come on.'” On Thursday, however, the actor clarified his statements. “I was promoting the film in Toronto last week and somebody asked me about action movies and I was just in one of those moods,” he explained on “Today.” “And I said, ‘Come on guys, I’m 65!'” He added, “When I was in the gym this morning, I thought, you know, I’ve got two more years left.”

Neeson already has two action movies in the can, The Commuter and Hard Powder, both of which are slated for release in 2018. Watch the actor’s full “Today” show interview below, during which he also reenacts the infamous phone call scene from Taken, but decides to change the menacing lines because he’s on a “breakfast show.”
