As Gossip Cop has reported, season 14 of “So You Think You Can Dance” is featuring 10 contestants paired with 10 All-Stars. It was up to the pros to choose which of the contenders they thought most deserved to be finalists. And Diaz, who won season 12 of the FOX competition, decided Ishimoto was the one she wanted to take to the finish line. To anyone who was watching the last few weeks, that was hardly a surprise.

Ishimoto’s “SYTYCD” audition, which aired nearly a month ago, received a standing ovation from the judges. He was commended for his unique routine, which was improvised on the spot with never-before-seen moves inspired by different dance styles. Nigel Lythgoe even told him, “You, sir, are going to be a star.” Ishimoto continued to be one to watch during the Dance Academy, solidifying his frontrunner status.

Now he and Diaz had to give their first live performance on the first live broadcast of the season. It was also their first time performing for America’s vote. And to say this tap dance to Bobby Darin’s “More” went over well would be an understatement. “It was just so elegant and beautiful,” gushed Nigel Lythgoe, telling Ishimoto, “You are not a good all-around dancer. You are a great all-around dancer.” He warned that “everyone is going to be picking on your personality,” but declared, “You’re one of the best dancers I’ve ever seen.”

Vanessa Hudgens exclaimed, “You guys are so good together… I loved it!” She went on to tell Ishimoto, “I totally saw your personality! There was a really, sweet, bashful, charming thing about you. The fact that you’re tapping like that and that’s not your specialty blows my mind.” And Mary Murphy asserted, “Lex, we’re just going to call you Mr. Talented. Holy smokes!” She also predicted Ishimoto will “have a breakthrough” in the personality department. Check out the video below!
