Lex Ishimoto and Gaby Diaz received a standing ovation for their Broadway performance on Monday’s “So You Think You Can Dance.” Watch the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, Ishimoto was deemed one of the “So You Think You Can Dance” season 14 frontrunners from the moment his audition aired, a performance that he admitted was largely improvised. During the Dance Academy, he caught the eye of season 12 “SYTYCD” winner Gabby Diaz, who decided he deserved to be in the 2017 Top 10 as his partner. For the first live show, they did a tap dance routine, which is the All-Star’s specialty. That was followed last week with an Argentine Tango, which was assigned at random.

This time around, the pair was tasked with doing a Broadway number. While Ishimoto is considered to be a contemporary/hip-hop performer, he revealed he actually has theater roots, having toured with Billy Elliott when he was 11 and 12 years old. Now having to do Broadway moves “takes me back to my childhood,” he said during rehearsal. But the routine, which was conceptualized as a “flirty chase” with Ishimoto trying to convince Diaz to dine with him, was extremely speedy, and their choreographer actually wondered if they would “make it across the finish line.”

But they breathlessly pulled off the dance, which was set to Bettle Midler’s “Miss Otis Regrets.” After a standing ovation from the judges, host Cat Deeley quipped to the tired duo, “I think you two are still alive. Just nod your head at this point.” In a nod to past criticism, Nigel Lythgoe said, “If anyone says, Lex, that you haven’t got a personality, get them to watch this routine… Tremendous.”

“That was so good. It was amazing,” gushed Vanessa Hudgens, telling Ishimoto, “It always surprises me, your control that you have over your body… You just nail things with the drop of a hat and you make it look so easy. It was so fast. It was no joke. And you crushed it.” Noting the speed, Mary Murphy exclaimed, “Holy smokes!” She went on, “This number had everything. It was pure entertainment… It was one great moment after another after another.” Check out the video below!
