Leonardo DiCaprio’s personal life is often the subject of bogus tabloid stories, but so is his career. The actor has been attached to a number of nonexistent projects and film roles over the years. Here are five wrong rumors about DiCaprio’s movie career.

In June 2017, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for wrongly reporting that DiCaprio would be starring in a remake of the 1975 Warren Beatty comedy Shampoo, about a male hairdresser who sleeps with his wealthy female clients. When the story first emerged, a reliable source assured us the actor wasn’t attached to the supposed project, which time has proven to be the case. In January, DiCaprio signed on to star in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is currently filming in Los Angeles.

Gossip Cop called out Life & Style in October 2016 for falsely claiming that DiCaprio was playing Bruce Springsteen in a biopic about the musician’s life. According to the magazine, the actor had paid $10 million for the movie rights to Springsteen’s memoir Born to Run. DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way has since acquired the film rights to several books, including Leonardo da Vinci and Ulysses S. Grant biopics. Born to Run isn’t currently being developed into a movie by any production company, let alone DiCaprio’s.

In March 2016, OK! made up a story about DiCaprio replacing Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. The magazine alleged that the actor was overheard at the Oscars telling Michael Keaton he’d been offered the role of the next 007. Gossip Cop debunked the bogus story, and last August, Craig confirmed on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that he was returning to the spy franchise.

Gossip Cop busted The Sun in March 2014 for wrongly reporting that DiCaprio was developing a film project for Harry Styles. The tabloid claimed that the actor had at least 10 movies in mind for the singer. The two never teamed up. Instead, Styles scored his first movie role when he was cast in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk in March 2016.

And finally, the website CHUD.com wrongly reported in October 2009 that DiCaprio was co-starring with Tobey Maguire in a remake of the classic 1949 thriller The Third Man. At the time, a source close to the actor told us the rumor was simply “not true.” Of course, The Third Man has yet to get the remake treatment. DiCaprio and Maguire did later team up on a movie together, but it was the 2013 adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
