Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet never dated, despite a cover story published one year ago. Exactly 12 months ago, a tabloid maintained the two were "lovers at last." As Gossip Cop noted then, it wasn't true, and it's still 100 percent false today.
Before Winslet attended DiCaprio's annual gala for his charity foundation in St. Tropez, France last year, the two were photographed relaxing by the pool at his villa. Using those images as a springboard, Star claimed the former Titanic co-stars had an "intimate rendezvous." To bolster its premise, the magazine produced an unnamed "source" who conveniently told the tabloid, "Leo has had strong feelings for Kate since the day he met her." The fact that Winslet had been married to Ned Rocknroll for nearly five years at that point mattered little to the outlet, whose source asserted, "Kate can't seem to let go of [Leo]."
But while it may be a fan fantasy, DiCaprio and Winslet have never been "lovers" or anything more than close friends. Acknowledging how fans are disappointed by their platonic status, Winslet herself has said she and DiCaprio are not in love. She told Vanity Fair last year, "We never fancied each." She added, "I know that's really annoying to hear, sorry, but we really never did." Simply, DiCaprio and Winslet just share an incredible friendship.
And it should be crystal clear 365 days after the original romance report that DiCaprio and Winslet never went on to date each other. Both are committed to other people. Just a month ago, for example, Winslet packed on PDA with Rocknroll in Menorca, an island off Spain's mainland, further dispelling inaccurate rumors of trouble in their marriage. Meanwhile, DiCaprio is currently with girlfriend Camila Morrone in Italy, where they were spotted snorkeling in recent days.
When we first looked into the magazine's cover story last year, a mutual friend of Gossip Cop and DiCaprio's guaranteed us there was absolutely "no truth" to the tabloid's narrative. Our same impeccable source went on to assure us, "They have been friends (and nothing more) for years." Obviously our reporting has withstood the test of time, and our pal was spot-on.
Tellingly, this same outlet has continued getting it wrong about Winslet. Just a month after the bogus tale about her and DiCaprio becoming "lovers," Gossip Cop again busted the publication when it falsely alleged Winslet was feuding with Idris Elba on the set of The Mountain Between Us. It's now a year later; maybe it's time for Star to find more reliable sources for these stars.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
