Lena Dunham is not furious about Kristen Wiig rewriting her script for the upcoming remake of the German comedy Toni Erdmann, despite an inaccurate tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this alleged behind-the-scenes drama.

Dunham and her “Girls” co-writer Jenni Konner were hired last year to pen the screenplay for an English-language remake of the film, which will star Wiig and Jack Nicholson as an estranged daughter and father who reconnect after years apart. According to this week’s Star, however, execs at Paramount Pictures aren’t happy with Dunham and Konner’s work on the script, so they’ve brought in Wiig and producer Adam McKay to retool it.

“Lena slaved on the script for six months,” a so-called “source” tells the magazine. “To be fair, Lena’s never written a big movie before, but her final draft didn’t emote the bittersweet humor needed.” The alleged insider further contends that Dunham is outraged by being pushed aside, adding, “Everybody is walking on eggshells because grumpy Lena can put a stink on a project very quickly!”

But Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for Dunham, who exclusively assures us there’s simply “no truth” to the magazine’s account of events. It should be noted, it’s not at all unusual for producers on a project, especially ones with the comedy backgrounds of “Saturday Night Live” alums Wiig and McKay, to offer their input on a script. Regardless, we’re also told that Paramount is very happy with Dunham’s work on Toni Erdmann, and her version of the script isn’t being rewritten in any significant way.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that a tabloid has baselessly suggested the “Girls” star has a big ego. Gossip Cop previously debunked a made-up story about Dunham demanding that HBO book her a private jet for press tours. This latest article is equally bogus.
