Late Night Hosts Oscars Best Picture Jokes

The late night hosts joked about the major mistake at Sunday night’s Oscars, during which La La Land was wrongly awarded Best Picture over the real winner, Moonlight. Watch the funny videos below!

As Gossip Cop reported, presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty accidentally declared La La Land the Best Picture after a mixup with the category envelopes.

During his monologue on “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon said, “Did you see the Oscars last night? Great show. I thought Jimmy Kimmel did a great job hosting… But did you see what happened at the end? The producers of La La Land went up onstage after the movie was named Best Picture. Then it was announced they actually lost to Moonlight. And today they joined a support group with the Atlanta Falcons and Hillary Clinton.” He added that Moonlight director “Barry Jenkins said he was speechless, not because he was surprised, but because he had torn up his speech when La La Land was announced.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert started his program by saying, “Welcome to the ‘Late Show,’ I’m La La Land. I’m sorry. I read that wrong. I’m Stephen Colbert.” He then continued, “For those of you who only watched the first three hours and twenty-nine minutes of the ceremony… Spoiler alert: Moonlight won best picture.” Colbert then showed Beatty and Dunaway’s flub. “That is so uncomfortable to watch. That’s like watching Titanic, but Titanic actually won best Picture.” The “Late Show” host went on to say he felt “so bad” for “Black America,” explaining, “Here’s your Oscar, but some white folks get to touch it first.”

As Gossip Cop reported, Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel also joked about the Oscars during his show’s monologue. He kicked it off by saying, “I don’t know if you know this, but I hosted the Oscars last night… Except for the end, it was a lot of fun.” He then related how La La Land was “simultaneously somehow the biggest winner and loser last night.” “You know it’s a strange night when the word ‘envelope’ is trending on Twitter,” added Kimmel. The host also admitted that while there was all the confusion onstage, he was “trying really hard not to laugh.” However, Kimmel promised, “It was not a prank.”

Seth Meyers said on “Late Night” that “Moonlight won the Oscar for Best Picture last night after the award was mistakenly presented to La La Land, due to an envelope mixup,” before jokingly adding, “Yet another defeat for perennial loser Ryan Gosling.” He added that while Moonlight won Best Picture, the “award for Most Pictures went to Gary from Chicago,” referencing Kimmel’s bit in which he had tourists visiting Hollywood crash the Oscars.

Meanwhile, James Corden first did a sketch in which he parodied La La Land, playing the role of Emma Stone. Dressed like the Academy Award-winning actress, Corden sang about the Best Picture mixup and how the movie lost to Moonlight. After that, he joked in his monologue that the Oscars had a “lot of surprising winners, a lot of surprising losers, and a couple that were both.” Following an explanation of the mistake with La La Land and Moonlight, Corden jabbed, “When this happened, I bet Hillary Clinton was like, ‘Welcome to my world.'” He added, “Warren Beatty looked so confused… and then he opened the envelope.” Corden also showed hilarious photos of stars looking shocked during the flub.
