Late Night Hosts Comey Hearing

Late night hosts Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Conan O’Brien all reacted to the James Comey hearing on Thursday’s shows. Check out the videos below.

As Gossip Cop has reported, earlier Thursday celebrities reacted to Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee about his dealings with Donald Trump, in addition to his involvement in the Russia and Michael Flynn investigations. “The View” co-hosts also discussed Comey’s opening statement on its live show, which taped as the hearing took place. But the late night shows filmed after the proceedings concluded, allowing the TV personalities to go all-in with commentary and jokes.

On “The Tonight Show,” Fallon said New York was going to get hit this weekend with a heat wave, and “they’re saying we’ll be sweating like Trump watching the James Comey hearing.” The talk show host then noted Comey stated he “would not say in the public hearing if he thought Trump colluded with Russia, but I can do this,” and with that Fallon shook his head “yes.” He added that Comey said he “kept memos because he felt the president may lie” about their meeting, followed by Fallon impersonating the president saying, “That sounds like me.”

Earlier, Colbert’s “Late Show” sent out gifs during the hearing, as Gossip Cop previously noted. Now on the actual episode, Colbert declared, “Happy St. Comey’s Day everybody! Of course, everyone celebrates Comey Day in their own way. We’re kind of traditionalists around here. We celebrated by watching TV and writing jokes as fast as we can.” Playing a clip of Comey calling Trump’s alleged defamation of him and the FBI “lies, plain and simple,” Colbert quipped, “That would be a good name for a Trump family law firm.”

The “Late Show” host said Comey kept all his memos from his meetings with Trump, which will be collected “in his new children’s book, ‘James And The Guilty Orange.'” After Colbert played a clip of Comey saying he kept detailed notes from his meetings with Trump because “he might lie about the nature of our meeting,” the talk show host injected, “That’s razor sharp FBI instinct right there.” Colbert actually opened his show by interspersing footage of himself asking absurd questions of Comey, as if he were a senator in the hearing, with the former FBI director’s actual responses spliced in.

During the monologue on O’Brien’s eponymous show, the comedian stated, “Lot of cool, fascinating things came out at the hearings today: Former FBI director Comey testified that he met privately with President Trump on February 14th. This is good news for everyone who thought THEY had the worst Valentine’s Day ever.” The “Conan” host went on, “James Comey also testified that every time he thought President Trump was lying, he wrote it down, which explains why Comey was just rushed to the hospital for carpal tunnel syndrome.”

And while the left and right naturally disagree on the impact of Comey’s testimony, O’Brien added, “Good news: Melania Trump is finally set to move into the White House next week. Apparently she’s only moving in because Trump is going to be moving out.” O’Brien further showed a distracting “ad” promoting “Conan” that he had on CNN during the hearing.

Seth Meyers also joked about Comey saying the Trump administration chose to defame him and the FBI with “lies, plain and simple.” The “Late Night” host cracked that the claims were refuted by “plain and simple,” while showing a photo of Eric and Donald Trump Jr. Jimmy Kimmel, however, missed out on the jokes because his show was a rerun.
