Lady Gaga didn’t get engaged to boyfriend Christian Carino in 2017, but that didn’t prevent a number of outlets from wrongly reporting that the singer celebrated the milestone. Gossip Cop exclusively debunked the claim as soon as it emerged, and time has proven it to be untrue.

In November, Us Weekly published an inaccurate article claiming that Carino secretly proposed to Gaga over the summer. The magazine provided zero details about when or where the talent agent popped the question, or whether or not he even gave Gaga a ring. Gossip Cop investigated the sketchy story, and a rep for the singer exclusively assured us it was all “untrue.”

Unfortunately, a slew of other outlets regurgitated the bogus report without bothering to do any fact-checking, including HollywoodLife, which went as far as to make up Taylor Kinney’s “reaction” to his ex-fiancee’s nonexistent engagement. Other places that spread the fake news included the Daily Mail, In Touch, Newsweek and OK!, which took it one step further by pretending to know the details of Gaga and Carino’s “extravagant wedding.” Of course, no such ceremony was in the works.

Earlier this month, the bogus engagement rumors picked up steam once again after Gaga posted an Instagram photo of herself wearing a ring while posing on a beach in Miami. Despite asserting one month prior that the singer got engaged, Us Weekly backpedaled by saying in uncertain terms that she “showed off what looked like a giant engagement ring.” Looks can be deceiving. Gossip Cop was once again told by Gaga’s rep that her boyfriend hadn’t proposed.

It should be noted, Gaga’s relationship with the talent agent appears to be going strong, but she won’t be ringing in 2018 with an engagement ring on her finger. The phony claim otherwise stands as one of the top rumors of 2017.
