Are Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott planning to spend $30 million on a wedding? That's the whopping dollar amount thrown out by one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop is skeptical, and readers should be, too.
The headline in In Touch blares, "Travis & Kylie's $30 Million Wedding!" It's alleged that after "quietly getting engaged" on Jenner's birthday last month, she and Scott are "already busy planning their nuptials." And, claims the magazine, "in true Kardashian style," Jenner is "planning to go all-out."
"It will be bigger and better than her sisters' weddings," a so-called "insider" is quoted as saying. The outlet contends Jenner is "ready to splash down as much as $30 million for a days-long destination wedding." Alleges the untraceable source, "She wants to tie the knot on a tropical island. Turks and Caicos is at the top of the list. They'll fly all their family and friends in by private jet, and the wedding will last for an entire weekend."
According to the publication, "The only hitch so far is whether or not to televise the lavish affair on 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' — which has Kylie's mom, Kris Jenner, butting heads with Travis." Maintains the supposed snitch, "Kris desperately wants to air her daughter's big day to increase viewership, but Travis is strongly against it." Curiously, it's not said how Jenner feels.
It's also not said just when these purported nuptials would take place, and why Jenner and Scott haven't publicly announced an engagement if they became engaged weeks ago. Gossip Cop suspects this narrative was manufactured because the tabloid's sister magazine, the National Enquirer, ran a suspiciously similar story last month claiming Jenner and Scott were planning a wedding that would top that of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. In that version, it was alleged, without evidence, that Kardashian's festivities cost $20 million, so we're not surprised to see In Touch is now going with $30 million for Jenner.
But think about how unrealistic that figure is: After Kardashian's wedding week, for which family and friends were flown to Italy and France, the Daily Mail estimated the celebrations cost $12 million. How, then, could Jenner's wedding cost $30 million for a single weekend? Even if she goes "all-out," and spends $1 million per day, or even somehow $5 million per day, that's still nowhere near a total of $30 million.
It should also be noted that when "Entertainment Tonight" recently did a story about how Scott and Jenner are "in it for the long haul," it was reported that although they've discussed marriage, "it's important to them to take things one step at a time." That makes this story about the reality star already planning a $30 million wedding even more far-fetched. Furthermore, In Touch is the same outlet that claimed Jenner was "dumped" by Scott while pregnant last fall. The publication clearly isn't trustworthy.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
