Are Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott faking their relationship for fame? That's the premise of a new tabloid story. But Gossip Cop can present evidence to dispute this narrative.
"Are Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott still oh so in love... or is their romance just lip service?" Star asks in its new issue. The magazine admits to "having some trouble keeping up" with the couple's supposedly "confusing relationship." It's alleged, without concrete evidence, that Scott and Jenner stayed at different hotels when they were in New York City recently for the MTV Video Music Awards.
In addition, the outlet claims that "fans and viewers couldn't help but notice something seemed off between the two" at the star-studded event. Contends the publication, "During Travis' VMA performance, cameras caught an awkward Kylie vaguely swaying to his song, as though she didn't really know the words — and didn't want to." It's further asserted that the purported "tension continued after the show was over," when Scott hosted an afterparty. A so-called "source" insists, "Kylie wasn't smiling."
Wonders the tabloid, "Is Travis just using Kylie's notoriety to increase his own?" The implication seems to be that the makeup mogul and rapper aren't genuinely into each other. But contrary to the allegation about "tension" between Scott and Jenner at his VMAs party, E! Online reported, "Travis and Kylie stayed by each other's sides the entire time. [She] and Travis were cuddling and looked very cute. He looked very protective over her."
And when it comes to what really went down during the VMAs that fans didn't see on TV, People reported, Jenner and Scott "were spotted holding hands during Hayley Kiyoko's performance, even sneaking a kiss between commercials." It was further revealed that when it was his turn to take the stage, "Jenner was the first person to stand up and remained standing the whole time as she proudly documented her boyfriend's gig on her cell phone." As for Star maintaining they stayed at separate hotels, with Jenner at The Soho Grand, photos show she and Scott sharing a kiss goodbye as they left The Mercer the day after the VMAs. There are no pictures of Jenner at the other hotel.
Also, part of this storyline doesn't make sense. If Jenner and Scott are only together for publicity's sake, then why didn't the pair walk the red carpet together before the ceremony? One would think they would've tried to maximize the attention on them by posing for photos together and flaunting their romance. But Jenner already explained in their GQ cover story last month that they actually prefer a separation when in public sometimes.
"I know he doesn't like the attention. That's why we just go the extra mile to keep our relationship super private, or like, if he has events or something, I won't come. Because I want him to do his own thing. I want him to be him," she said, adding, "I don't want it to be Kylie and Trav. If people don't ever see us together, that's okay with me, because we just do our thing."
That, of course, undermines the tabloid's whole story. Also going against this article is a report last week from "Entertainment Tonight," which stressed how Jenner and Scott are "in it for the long haul" and "more devoted than ever." It was further noted how "they're not in it for the fame," and have largely "kept their relationship private from the beginning, from their first date to her pregnancy with Stormi, to their current all-in romance."
Why is Star offering such a contrarian take? It could be because the magazine falsely predicted Jenner and Scott were headed for a split just over a month ago. The couple is clearly still together, so the outlet manufactured a reason why: They must be faking it. But as Gossip Cop has demonstrated here, such a narrative is easily disproven.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
