Is Kylie Jenner really "livid" over Kim Kardashian's perfume launch and calling her sister a "copycat"? That's what one webloid wants readers to believe. Gossip Cop, however, can bust the story.
As has been widely reported, Kardashian launched her "Crystal Gardenia" fragrance this week, and is expected to pull in millions. Now RadarOnline is alleging Jenner is "livid" and "fuming" over the venture. A so-called "family insider" is quoted as saying, "Kylie thinks Kim can't stop copying her ideas! The beauty industry was Kylie's gig and Kim had enough on her plate already." The site's ill-informed source goes on to contend, "Kim is not giving her credit for coming up with these things, and Kylie is just sick of it. Kylie doesn't understand why Kim just can't do her own thing."
The outlet doesn't explain, however, how Kardashian's fragrance counts as "copying" Jenner or how Jenner supposedly came up with it. Kardashian has released perfumes in years past, and Jenner doesn't sell any of her own as part of Kylie Cosmetics. In addition, Kardashian, Kourtney and Khloe had a joint cosmetics line long before Jenner started her business. So if anyone was copying a move into the beauty world, it was the younger sister, not the older one.
Furthermore, KKW Beauty and Kylie Cosmetics offer different products, with the former primarily focused on contouring kits and perfumes and the latter selling lip kits and eye shadow palettes. The only overlap to date is when the sisters actually teamed up together on a special set of glosses. And Kardashian herself explained in an interview about the fragrance why she and Jenner don't have a rivalry with their respective lines.
"We're not really competitive, and it's crazy 'cause we're in the same business, but I think we have really different products," she told "Entertainment Tonight," explaining, "Even if we have a product that could be similar, we always talk it through. We always share our schedule with each other. We make sure that our products are really different. We really work at that together."
That goes against RadarOnline's whole insistence that Jenner feels Kardashian is "copying" her and objects to her sister's endeavors. The outlet has been pushing this wrong narrative for quite some time, even claiming last year that Kardashian was feuding with Jenner. But the facts show it's just not true.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
