Is Kylie Jenner blaming Kris Jenner for the supposedly disastrous ratings for her “Life Of Kylie” reality show? That’s what a certain webloid wants readers to believe. But Gossip Cop can reveal the truth.
On Monday, one day after “Life Of Kylie” had its second airing, RadarOnline is blaring in a headline, “You’re Fired! Kylie Jenner Blaming Momager Kris For Reality Show Spinoff Disaster.” According to the site, the series has “turned out to be a major flop,” and now Kylie is “blaming her own mother” for the show’s “failure.” A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Kylie is not taking this very well and she is putting the blame on everyone but herself!”
“She is blaming Kris for focusing more on Kim’s makeup launch than on her reality show and she is telling everyone in the family that it is not her fault that people are not interested in her show,” claims the outlet’s supposed snitch, who further contends, “The family was really hoping that Kylie’s show was going to save the Kardashian’s reality TV reign, not hurt their brand as it seems to have done. She is super distressed right now and is currently scrambling to shoot new material that will appeal to the audience.”
The online publication’s alleged tipster further purports, “She is also blaming it on the editing team, which she says was hired by her mother and of course, she is blaming it on the time slot!” The “source” also maintains that E! may have “no other choice” but to cancel the program. But there’s a few flaws in these quotes that indicate this story is inaccurate.
First off, it makes no sense that Kylie would be upset with the editing team, since the show is crafted by Ryan Seacrest Productions, the same company responsible for all of the Kardashian shows. Second, it is similarly illogical that she’d be upset with the time slot given that the show is airing in the same spot that “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” normally occupies. And third, the reality star is also an executive producer of the series, and has a hand in all of the decisions. There’s no rationale to point the finger at Kris.
Furthermore, RadarOnline is insisting that Kylie is “devastated over [this] ratings bust” after a “meager 1.12 million people watched the ‘KUWTK’ spinoff,” as if number is the only metric that matters. On the contrary, several other stats actually indicate that while the program may not be a runaway success, it is showing promise. In a press release shared days before this article was published, E! pointed out that “Life Of Kylie” had the “highest-rated new docuseries launch of the year to date” among key demographics, women aged 12-17 and 18-34. In addition, “Throughout Sunday night, the series reached a total unique audience of 3.1 million viewers. Socially, ‘Life of Kylie’ ranked as the #1 unscripted reality show across all key demos for the night, and racked up 36 million social engagements across all platforms in the first three days following its debut.”
Adam Stotsky, the president, E!, even said in a statement, “The strong premiere numbers show ‘Life of Kylie’ has struck a chord with younger viewers, who live online, yet made the show a priority on Sunday night. By showing Kylie opening up to her fans for the first time, we were able to deepen the connection they felt to her and further solidify E! as the home of all things Kardashian and Jenner.” In other words, the network has no intention of canceling the show.
Kris took to both Twitter and Instagram to share part of the press release (see below). And far from blaming her mom for any ratings “failure,” Kylie actually celebrated with her by retweeting her momager’s tweet. It’s quite clear the webloid got this “disaster” and “blame” story pretty wrong. Of course, the site was also wrong when it claimed twice last year that Kylie was firing Kris as her manager. Mother and daughter not only continue to work together, but they seem to have more success than the bad blog that so often writes about them.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
