Kristen Stewart is reportedly in final talks to star in the upcoming action-thriller Underwater, which revolves around a group of scientific researchers who must struggle to survive after an earthquake destroys their underwater laboratory.

The actress will take on the role of Norah, a brave, but jaded woman who begins a relationship with another member of the crew. 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are releasing the film, which is expected to start filming next month. The movie will be directed by William Eubank, who also helmed the 2014 sci-fi thriller The Signal, from a script written by Brian Duffield (Insurgent, Jane Got a Gun) and Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit).

The action-packed Underwater marks a different type of film for Stewart, who has appeared in a number of indies and smaller movies as of late. Some of her recent movies have included Cafe Society, Certain Women, Personal Shopper and Equals. The actress also recently finished production on the real-life crime drama Lizzie, based on axe murderer Lizzie Borden. Chloe Sevigny stars in the title role, while Stewart co-stars as Bridget Sullivan, the Borden family’s live-in maid who allegedly witnessed their murders. Gossip Cop has reached out to a rep for Stewart for confirmation about her role in Underwater.
