Kristen Stewart is being considered to star in Sony’s upcoming reboot of Charlie’s Angels, which is slated for a June 2019 release date. Lupita Nyong’o is also said to be in talks for a role in the film, which is being directed by Elizabeth Banks.

The original TV version of “Charlie’s Angels,” starring Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith, ran for five seasons from 1976 to 1981. The hit show revolved around three female private eyes who went on secret missions on behalf of a mysterious boss named Charlie. The series was adapted for the big-screen in 2000 with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu playing the leads. The hit movie also spawned a 2003 sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Sony is reviving the popular franchise yet again, and according to Variety, Stewart is the frontrunner to star in the film. Should the actress sign on for a role in the action-comedy, it would mark a departure for her as she’s focused mostly on indie films in recent years. The actress’s last major blockbuster was 2010’s Snow White and the Hunstman, but she followed up that big-budget production with smaller films such as Still Alice, Clouds of Sils Maria, Cafe Society and Personal Shopper. Stewart has two more indies in post-production, the dramas JT Leroy and Lizze. However, Stewart also recently wrapped filming on Fox’s action-thriller Underwater, in which she plays an underwater researcher whose subterranean laboratory is hit by an earthquake.

The upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot was first announced in 2015, with Banks on board as the director. The actress is also producing the project along with her husband and producing partner, Max Handelman. The duo also produced the Pitch Perfect movies, with Banks making her directorial debut on the second film in the franchise. Sony has scheduled the Charlie’s Angels reboot for a June 7, 2019 release date.
