Kourtney Kardashian is not ditching her sisters, despite a tabloid report. Gossip Cop can correct this claim. On the contrary, she's been very much keeping up with her siblings.
In a new story from Star, the magazine quotes a so-called "source" as saying, "She doesn't want to be a 'Kardashian' anymore. She wasn't kidding when she called her sisters fake." The outlet's tipster further asserts, "If she could get married today and have a different last name, she would."
Until that happens, however, the publication maintains Kardashian is going to move a full 2,814 miles away. "She wants to move the kids out to New York City," says the supposed source. Adds the tabloid's alleged insider, "At this point, it'd take an insane amount of money to get Kourtney to renew her contract next year. She's just over the whole circus."
It appears the tabloid based its premise on remarks Kardashian made last month on the season 15 premiere of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians." At one point in the episode, she railed to her sisters and mom, "We have a disgusting family. I'm ashamed to be a part of. It's just gross." Kardashian added, "I will move to another state at some point, or another country" because she was tired of "these fake relationships."
But that episode, which aired on August 5, was shot about nine months ago and clearly Kardashian is still in touch with her family and didn't move away. A little more than a week ago, for instance, Kardashian spent Labor Day weekend with her sisters Kim and Kendall Jenner. In a series of Instagram Stories, the sisters could be seen hanging out by the beach and happily cooking together.
More tellingly, one day after the season premiere, Kim Kardashian clarified in a tweet, "dont ever get it twisted, me, Kourtney and Khloe are GOOD! ALWAYS!!!! Never question that!" And Kourtney herself retweeted her sister's message, along with a note that read, "Unconditional love." The reality is siblings fight on occasion, but since that moment three-quarters of a year ago, which made for dramatic TV on "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," the sisters have clearly made up and are in a good enough place that Kourtney doesn't want to change her name.
If Kourtney truly wanted to "have a different name," she wouldn't have to get married to do so. In fact, on the California Courts' website, it states, "Filing a Petition for a Change of Name is the most common process," and "can take up to 3 months." The site notes it's simply a matter of paperwork and a court decree. A full nine months have passed since Kourtney's outburst on "KUWTK." She could have changed her name three consecutive times, if she desired.
As for contention that Kourtney is leaving California, that too is wrong. The reality star loves her life there. Not only does Kourtney frequently post pictures on social media of her home, which she views as an oasis, but she's even tried on Instagram to convince her friends "to move to Calabasas," where she lives.
Just a few weeks ago, a proud Los Angeleno, Kardashian posted a photo of herself on Instagram in a Dodgers jersey before throwing out the first pitch at a game. Most significantly, she's not moving to New York. While she and Kim filmed a spinoff series of them living in the Big Apple seven years ago, California is where Kourtney's kids go to school, have friends, and where their father Scott Disick lives.
Conclusion: Star took one subplot from an episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," in which Kourtney lashed out at her family, and tried to use it for a story that falsely maintains she's ditching her family. In the subsequent nine months since that show was filmed, however, Kourtney and her siblings have happily spent many occasions together. They've even documented on Instagram, for instance, those moments of sisterly love, as well as tweeted about their "unconditional love" for one another.
While the tabloid predicates its entire article on quotes from an unnamed and untraceable tipster, who furnishes no proof whatsoever for his or her claims, Gossip Cop trusts the words and pictures of primary sources, namely the Kardashians themselves. For that reason and the others mentioned above, we're giving the magazine's tale a zero out of 10 on our fact-or-fiction meter.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
