Kim Kardashian freaked out after her surrogate was photographed buying junk food, according to a tabloid report. While it's true the unidentified woman was seen with a grocery cart filled with snacks and other items, Kardashian's supposed reaction is made-up. Gossip Cop can bust the story.
"Kim Freaks As Surrogate Pigs Out," blares a headline in the current edition of the National Enquirer. According to the gossip magazine's version of events, Kardashian "went berserk after her surrogate was spotted with a shopping cart full of calorific junk food." In the paparazzi pictures that already circulated online earlier this month, the woman, whose identity Kardashian has kept private, is seen with a cart carrying frozen chicken nuggets, trail mix, pretzels, Cheese-Its and other items. Because of that, the outlet asserts she has "questionable eating habits" and Kardashian is "furious."
A so-called "insider" claims the reality star is "constantly checking in on the surrogate and asking all sorts of questions about what she's eating and what exercising she's doing. She and Kanye [West] would have preferred green juices, vegetables and goodness all around." The outlet's supposed source adds, "What her surrogate does — or doesn't do — is affecting her unborn child, and Kim's freaking out over every little thing."
But, as it too often does, the publication is sensationalizing for the sake of scandal. Kardashian's surrogate is a mom herself with a family. Yet the supermarket tabloid has jumped to the conclusion that all of the pictured food items, healthy or not, are for herself. That assumption is unsubstantiated. Just because of the photos, the magazine crafted a narrative in which the surrogate is "pigging out" and Kardashian is "freaking out."
Of course, Kardashian is concerned about the surrogate's health as carries her third child. As a source told People a few months ago, "Kim is providing an ideal eating regimen and diet so everyone knows what the baby is consuming before it's born." But while Kardashian is being painted as a "control freak" in this new story, experts say it's actually reasonable to impose an appropriate diet on surrogate mothers.
That means the problem with this article is two-fold. It shames Kardashian for wanting her surrogate to eat healthy and it shames the surrogate for supposedly not doing so. Yet, as noted above, there's no actual evidence that the surrogate is eating poorly, and there's nothing wrong with Kardashian being concerned about the woman's food intake. What's more is Gossip Cop is exclusively told by Kardashian's rep that no one actually connected to either the "KUWTK" star or the expectant surrogate spoke with the publication for this story. This is simply a case of using paparazzi photos to build a fictional tale.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
