Kim Kardashian is not trying to become friends with Meghan Markle in an effort to score an invite to her wedding to Prince Harry, despite a fabricated report that was published by a tabloid and spread by an equally unreliable website. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this claim about Kardashian having "her sights set" on Markle and even sending the former "Suits" actress diamond earrings. We're told it's "ridiculous."
The made-up report began in the pages of OK!, which alleges Kardashian is "pulling out all the stops" to "snag an invitation" to Prince Harry and Markle's royal wedding at Windsor Castle in May. In the tabloid's article, a so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "Kim tried hard to befriend William and Kate, but that didn't work out. So now she's networking like crazy to find mutual friends who will introduce her to Meghan." The magazine's supposed "insider" adds that Kardashian has also "arranged for diamond earrings that match Meghan's engagement ring to be designed as a gift."
Not surprisingly, HollywoodLife, which rarely fact-checks, picked up the story for an article it titled, "Kim Kardashian Wooing Meghan Markle As A Friend: Trying To Win Her Over With Diamonds & More." In that equally erroneous report, the website blathers on about how the reality star really wants to "get close to actual royalty" and contends that Kardashian even plans to "offer [Markle] and Harry a private Kanye [West] concert, since she knows the prince is a fan." Kardashian is "determined to make this happen," notes the outlet, which also regurgitate's the tabloid's claim about how she previously tried to "befriend William and Kate."
That's interesting because Gossip Cop exposed that same site nearly two years ago for fabricating an entire article about how Kardashian and West received a "surprise call from Prince William and Kate Middleton" when their son Saint was born. In that fake news story from HollywoodLife, the outlet manufactured a source who said, "It takes a lot for Kanye to be shocked... but he was just that when Prince William and Kate phoned he and Kim, congratulating them and sending them their love on the birth of their second child... [West] thought that was just classy."
Remember, the source of the latest untrue report was originally OK!, a publication that Gossip Cop has discredited on numerous occasions for its entirely wrong stories about both Kardashian and Markle. For example, we busted the publication for a cover story in December 2016 that declared Kardashian was divorcing West. It was false then and remains so today. Similarly, just a few weeks ago, Gossip Cop also exposed the same tabloid for falsely maintaining on its cover that Markle was pregnant with Prince Harry's baby.
Irrespective of how incredibly untrustworthy each outlet is, Gossip Cop still fact-checked the stories, and a rep for Kardashian exclusively tells us the claim about the reality star trying to become friends with Markle in an attempt to score an invite to her wedding to Prince Harry is completely "ridiculous." The only remotely factual aspect of the entire article is that Prince Harry is a fan of West, who performed at a Princess Diana Memorial Concert at Wembley Stadium in 2007. Following that performance a decade ago, Prince Harry posed for a picture with West, Diddy and Prince William. Of course, none of that means West's wife is sending gifts to Markle in the hopes of getting an invitation to the royal wedding.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
