Kim Kardashian's alleged "plans to meet [her] dream BFF," said to be Meghan Markle, were made-up. Gossip Cop can bust this story and explain how it came about.
On Wednesday, OK! published an article in its new issue claiming Kardashian is "pulling out all the stops" to "snag an invitation" to Markle's wedding to Prince Harry. While Gossip Cop took time to investigate the merits of the allegation, HollywoodLife picked it up as fact and regurgitated the assertion. By Thursday morning, we had confirmed the article was false, with Kardashian's rep even telling us the contention was "ridiculous."
But despite the debunking, HollywoodLies, as it's known, is still running with the inaccurate tabloid narrative. And now the webloid has gone beyond just copying the original falsehood, which is bad enough, to concocting its own related "exclusive." The site claims Kardashian is "going all out to befriend" Markle, and that it "EXCLUSIVELY" learned "Kim's chances of snagging a meet and greet with the soon-to-be royal family member are actually pretty good thanks to their mutual friend, Serena Williams."
"Kim knows getting an invite to the royal wedding is a long shot but she does feel like she has a better chance this time around because she's only one degree of separation from Meghan," a so-called "source" is quoted as saying. "Her good friend Serena and Meghan are super close and Kim's using that connection to her advantage." This supposed tipster even alleges, "Serena's her ace in the hole, she's already promised Kim that she'll introduce her to Meghan."
The outlet goes on to opine, "Considering Kim almost always gets what she wants we have a feeling she'll make this friendship happen, one way or another," and absurdly asks readers, "Do you think Kim and Meghan are destined to be BFFs?" As Kardashian's own rep already said, this is ridiculous. She and Markle are not going to become best friends. And she is not trying to use the tennis player as a go-between.
It seems obvious why HollywoodLies crafted this far-fetched tale. While a friendship between the reality star and the future royal is improbable, the online publication rooted it in two facts: Williams has been friends with Kardashian for more than a decade and Williams has been friends with Markle since 2014. It's also been speculated that the superstar athlete could be among the famous guests invited to Prince Harry and Markle's wedding.
So the webloid seemingly took those facts, combined it with the speculation and the OK! tabloid story, and came up with this narrative about Williams being part of Kardashian's "plan" to meet the bride-to-be. A big problem remains: The gossip magazine's original premise, that the "KUWTK" star is supposedly desperate to become friends with Markle and attend the royal wedding, is still untrue. HollywoodLies' "exclusive" is based on a falsehood. So, if it's inaccurate that Kardashian is trying to befriend the "Suits" star, as her spokesperson has confirmed, how does the webloid have a "source" saying otherwise? Simple: The blog made it all up.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
