Kim Kardashian is not “shading” Kylie Jenner with a “billion-dollar tanning business,” despite a new report. This story falsely claims Kardashian is embarking on a new venture to compete with her younger sister. Gossip Cop can bust the allegations, as both are untrue.
According to RadarOnline, Kardashian is “preparing to sink millions into a fake tan franchise, which she hopes will be every bit as successful as sister Kylie’s lip kit empire.” A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “Kim’s next big move is teaming up with her self-tan guru Jimmy Coco to turn his $500-a-session technique into a $30 product that can be sold in every drugstore in the country.” It’s asserted the reality star has been “testing the waters with her makeup line, but this is something she wants to do on an even bigger scale.”
As for her motivation, the site’s untraceable source contends, “Kim and Kylie have a bit of a rivalry and she wants to create something that’s just as popular as Kylie’s lip kits.” This supposed snitch further maintains, “Kim’s happy to put her own money into this, because she’s obsessed with fake tanning and convinced it could quickly turn into a billion-dollar business.” Kardashian is a known fan of faux tans, and she has been connected to Coco in the past.
But neither of that means she is teaming up with him now to sell a self-tanning product in drug stores. Kardashian’s spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record that this story is “false.” It also doesn’t make much sense to claim the “KUWTK” star wants to do a product that is sold in run-of-the-mill drug stores when she’s built the success of KKW Beauty through online shopping and the rare pop-up shop.
As for the other part of this narrative, about Kardashian competing with her sister, that’s disputable, too. Kardashian dismissed talk of a “sibling rivalry” with Jenner earlier this year, and again in July, when she discussed “rivalry” claims during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Kardashian shared, “We learn a lot from each other and we’re really supportive. There’s no rivalry at all.”
Even as far back as 2016, Kardashian addressed the “rivalry” perception on her blog, writing, “Kylie and I laugh so hard at this all the time, because people always want to pit us against each other… I think it’s amazing — there’s no one else I would want to be in the same business with than my sister.” Her own comments show how off-base RadarOnline is, which was also the case when the website wrongly claimed Kardashian was “fuming” over Jenner’s Forbes cover two months ago.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
