Kiki Nyemchek and Jenna Johnson performed a fun Broadway number with canes during Monday’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” earning a standing ovation. Check out the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, Nyemchek has turned out to be quite the competitor during season 14 of FOX’s dance competition. While the judges initially had their doubts after a mediocre performance on the first live episode last month, he and his All-Star partner have rebounded in a big way. Last week, Nyemchek and Johnson did a jazz dance inspired by pop art that had the panelists thrilled. “You keep blowing our minds every week… You are emerging as a star,” Mary Murphy told the contestant. Nigel Lythgoe was particularly impressed that Nyemchek was in step with Johnson, telling him, “That means, young man, that you are keeping up with one of the best dancers we’ve ever had on ‘So You Think You Can Dance.'”

Of course, with that kind of feedback also comes pressure. For tonight’s new episode, Nyemchek not only had to do a new routine with Johnson, but he also had to perform in a mini group and do a solo number as well. And for his All-Star dance, he and his pro were assigned Broadway. “I’m excited. I don’t know what to expect,” Nyemchek admitted. Warren Carlyle choreographed the dance to include canes, and not just one each, but multiple that were thrown to them throughout the performance. “If you drop the prop, you might as well lay down on the floor and give up,” Nyemchek said, but he predicted the routine would be a “show-stopper” if they got it right.

Well, they did, prompting a standing ovation from the judges. Host Cat Deeley even admitted, “I’ve never cheered on someone more in my life.” Murphy then declared, “Lord, have mercy, Warren Carlyle, you have given me high, high anxiety tonight.” She went on to note that just handling canes during a dance is one thing, but “to have it coming from all sides of you from different people is a whole ‘nother matter. People really don’t understand until you try it. You have taken me out of my comfort zone tonight for the first time all season.” Murphy amusingly added in her signature yell, “And P.S., I loved the dancing, too!”

Lythgoe deadpanned, “Let me tell you what I didn’t like during this routine: Every time a cane got thrown, Mary screamed in my damn ear!” More seriously, he told Nyemchek that the competition has made him a “brilliant, all-around dancer now.” The head judge noted, “Your improvement is the best I’ve seen on the show this season.” And Vanessa Hudgens confessed, “I held my breath the entire time as well. It was terrifying. I could never imagine doing that, because that takes some serious hand and eye coordination, but you did it. You did it and it looked effortless.” Watch the video below!
