Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson never split a year ago, despite a report. While the future of their relationship is up in the air, Gossip Cop is taking a look back at a false rumor that claimed the stars broke up 12 months ago. Time has shown our debunking was correct.
In late April of 2017, MediaTakeOut claimed, without any proof, that Thompson had told Kardashian he wanted to take a break from their relationship. A number of outlets spread this allegation without any fact-checking, but none went as far as HollywoodLife did. Between April 29 and May 1, the site ran three stories about the couple's romance "falling apart" and the pair calling it quits. On May 2, Gossip Cop pointed out how Kardashian herself exposed the fake news, which led the blog to flip-flop.
Here's how it all went down: First, HollywoodLies, as the site is known, picked up the MTO claim and ran a story about Kardashian being "dumped" by Thompson. Then, as it often does when it wants to capitalize on a hot topic, the website pretended to have insight and made-up its own related story about "explosive fights" torpedoing the relationship. That was followed by another phony "exclusive" about Thompson distancing himself from Kardashian and "spending more time" with his baby mama, Jordyn Craig.
But on the same night as that third piece, Kardashian posted a Snapchat video of Thompson doing a post-game interview and captioned it, "Hi handsome." It was apparent she hadn't split from the basketball player. So, the next day, HollywoodLies changed course and announced in a headline, "Khloe Kardashian Slams Tristan Thompson Breakup Rumors." The outlet had the nerve to write, "So much for those nasty reports that they were 'taking a break.'"
At no point did the online publication acknowledge that it spread those "nasty reports," even manufacturing some of them, in the first place. The site was caught in a lie then, and the last 365 days have shown just how wrong the blog was. Not only did the couple not split last spring, but by the fall, it was revealed they were expecting a baby. Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl, later named True, in April of 2018, roughly 11 months after the bogus split stories.
Of course, whether the new parents will make it another year together is very uncertain now due to Thompson's cheating scandal, which broke just days before their daughter was born. Most recently, in a story about how Kardashian's family feels about her forgiving Thompson, E! Online reported that the reality star goes "back and forth" on whether to stay together and that her feelings "change daily." This much is clear, though: They never split a year ago. Keep this mind the next time HollywoodLies purports to have an "exclusive" on the couple.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
